I have tried both the more buttons, uninstalled and reinstalled the app quite a few times,still no recognise with Seeing AI, bloody strange as everything else works just fine, besides the recognise with Seeing AI option.I see buttons to turn off and on services like dropbox whatsapp etc,but not this app.Using Iphone 6 plus IOS10oh and yes, the realetime recognition of this app is far better than any other out there, I pointed it at my screen and it was able to read a muds output just fine! Swipe right untill you get to the second more button. After doubble tapping on the second more button you should see Reccanise with Seeing AI. Turn that on and then you can have Seeing AI look at pictures from your photo library or from messages. I hope this helps. Re: New app for picture and document recognisation, seeing AI by Microsoft All I have done with this app so far was just fooling around with it so I'd know what to do and expect when it came time to put it to real world use.Today I got that chance when I needed to identify some Boar's Head sandwiches I had just bought at Publix, a grocery store in this area.First I tried using my ID Mate Galaxy and wasn't surprised when it couldn't identify them because a year ago Envision America said that Publix was no longer sharing product information with them.So I grabbed my iPhone and gave this app a try in its short text mode. It didn't take long to find where on the package the sandwich description was and I soon had them all identified.Because my primary tool for sorting groceries after bringing them home is the ID Mate, I rescan the sandwiches and when it couldn't identify them, it offered to let me record their description. Now, for future use, the ID Mate can identify these sandwiches.Neat app Microsoft! I've tried a number of apps that claim to do real time OCR scanning of text, and they were always disappointing. This is the first app that actually worked well enough to be helpful. Now Apple has subscriptions, which could theoretically work as trials for content delivered regularly and possibly cloud services as well, but there are no apps which, officially at least, accept money for upgrades to full versions from demos or trials. And since the only way you can take money is through the store, again officially, there is no way to unlock full functionality or content, except by some out-of-band means like a website where the app is simply an interface (Audible does this, for instance, where they can't advertise purchases, but the app is the client for your Audible account). So I have no idea what TapTapSee was doing, but it was probably the exception and against the rules. Of course, it's Apple's store and they could implement whatever they want, and perhaps they did in this case. My best guess is that TapTapSee simply means the very loose definition of a subscription service, because i t's cloud-based, and so they can charge you for access using a subscription or an in-app purchase. If you can do that, and sign up for cognitive services and get the API key, this script calls curl and dumps raw json. If you're still up for it, I can dump the script on here. But honestly I think it needs a good polish and some integration to be more user-friendly. Even now I call it rarely as it requires opening up Terminal. But if you're interested ...@simba I will soon have a demo of the various blindness products. Yes, I must have answers. In my opinion it is not ready yet to use on a daily basis, since, at the moment, it's a real battery drainer. But if MS can fix that, this app can be usefull. Of course I wouldn't scan personal documents with it. That's what I have a scanner for. I cannot say, if it is better then KNFB, since I don't have that app. I wish, there would be a trial version for KNFB. Simply giving away 100 bucks without the chance of having the product tested is a bit much to ask, im my eyes. Re: New app for picture and document recognisation, seeing AI by Microsoft I haven't tried bar codes yet but will just out of curiosity, I have an ID Mate Galaxy for those, though this app may be a good stand in for when I don't have the Galaxy with me.But I did have a chance to use it's short text function and it worked great for identifying a DVD from Netflix.Unlike what someone else suggested, I don't see this replacing other apps like KNFB Reader. For one thing, since the OCR function in Reader is done right on your device, I'll use it when scanning something like my mail. But for something with no personal data this app will do nicely. I place the item in my hand with the side that I think contains the bar code upwards and lift the phone about one foot moving it slowly in all directions until I hear the beep. Then I move it untill the beep is very rapid and then the scan will be complete. I love the ability to import pictures from the Photos app. It's really useful in recognizing photos, and just adds to Apple's native image AI. It called my 63 year old grandmother a 90 year old man with gray hair, but you know, I got the point anyway. I'm also able to find barcodes on cans now, which has always given me such trouble in the past. I did have an issue reading the barcode on a beer can, but I'm guessing the shine of the can made it tricky. The short text feature got the name, though. I also really love not having to point and tap to recognize text. Simply pointing the phone is so fast and responsive. Somebody stuck a business card to our door, and Seeing AI read it in about 2 seconds. Scanning small papers with Prismo in the past has been a giant pain. I'll have to try it out more with things like graphical restaurant menus. Somebody on Facebook said they got text from on e off their laptop with the app. I wish there was a way to capture Facebook and Twitter pics to import, but that's on them, not Microsoft. I hate to see smaller independent companies go down because of this, but this app is blowing them all out of the water. It had no problems reading ingredients and recognizing the name of a product in my native language. It was even able to tell me what's on the TV screen, something which I wasn't able to do with other recognition apps. Overall I think that this app is already better than most aplications that are available on the market. It will surely become my number one app when I need something recognized. And the fact that this is just the first version is really impressive in my oppinion. Re: New app for picture and document recognisation, seeing AI by Microsoft I am sure it will not work on iPhone 5 or earlier as they are 32 bit devices.The Seeing AI is a 64 bit app and the 5s and 5c were the first 64 bit iPhones.It works better with a iPhone 6 and newer as they have the laser bar code reader feature that the iPhone 5s doesn't have.I have a 5s and it doesn't scan bar codes of packages but it does read the text on the label of products.I also have a 7 and it reads the bar codes of packages such as soup, nuts, and frozen food. I like it better than Digit-eyes but am sorry that independent apps like it may soon disappear as you can't compete with a free app.Microsoft might start a monthly subscription to the product in the future like they do with Word and Office. I thin Tap Tap See was free at the beginning and now charges for it. When we leave our rooms or apartments, we always make sure, that the door is locked. We always make sure, that no one can steal our wallit. But when it comes to being present on the internet, we can't be conspicuous enough. Twitter, foursquare, and of course Facebook. I don't want to think about, how vulnerable we make ourselves by giving everything from us away so easily. So yes, I think humanity should be a bit more cautious with these things. And yes, I think the motives of companies like Apple or Microsoft should be questioned. No company is completely selfless. And I really don't mean to bring this topic down, but I do question the motives of companies such as MS, Apple, and Google. If they want to be utterly self-interested, okay, that's the society we live in, I just don't particularly like it when they try to tack on some apparently altruistic intent. I don't have a smart phone because I don't need one, not for privacy reasons. If I had a really active social life, no doubt I'd own one. My point about privacy was really just a comment on the kinds of devices we have today. If 20 years ago the state told us we had to all carry a device that would listen in on all our conversations and even film us in our own front rooms and everywhere else and monitor every move we make, we'd have tolde them where they can shove that idea, but that's where we are right now by desire. Re: New app for picture and document recognisation, seeing AI by Microsoft I downloaded the app and installed it on 2 iPhones, a5s and a 7.It works great on the 7, identifying cans from soup to nuts. The soup even gave cooking instructions. It read documents and with the short text feature described ingredients and product information on the can of nuts.The 5s didn't allow me to use the bar code finding and voicing feature, which is probably just in the 6 or 7.I plan on getting a new phone in October so it I'll have to wait for that.I wouldn't try to read banking info or credit card bills as the information goes up to the cloud to be read.We didn't try the person identification or video description features.
