I kind of wish that modes were more customisable. For example, before you start a track or mission you could hit a hotkey and get a menu like this (and the options menu would have a mode submenu)Audible cues 1 or 2visuals on/offBeat count/note delayConfirmation cues on/offhelper drum on/offautopilot on/offThat way all of the options would be in one place for easier experimentation. I also find myself wanting to switch between modes a lot.

musicman, leaderboards should indeed be enabled for audio cues 2 mode, because the notes are all the same as the visible cues mode.  But they aren't... it's a bug I need to fix.  Also I think I will also enable the visuals for that mode.blindndangerous, there are currently bugs that make Autumn Day Distraction not work properly in audio cues 1 mode (maybe also 2?).  It has to do with the fact that it has BPM changes in it.

sweet! I totally would not complain if this game were expanded. SMG I do have a question. you mentioned leaderboards: I know you haven't made up your mind on how it would work for cues 1, but what about cues 2? That one is like visual cues, so you could potentially add leaderboards, correct? unless there's something I'm not taking into accountdoes cues 2 have visuals? that would be even better. we'd be able to compete with other sighted players. I'm not saying adding to cues 1 would be a bad idea, but I'd love it on cues 2 as well. I'm just not sure if cues 2 is scored the same as visual cues.

The problem with adding online multiplayer is that it isn't a known quantity of work, I have no idea how long that would take for me to do.  Also there are only ever a few people playing at a time, anyway.  If you want to compete with others, then the Steam version has leaderboards for both times and scores in arcade mode, but I haven't made those accessible yet and made decisions about how they will work with the audio cues 1 mode.

I am still having a lot of trouble avoiding barriers. I feel like I"m just guessing which direction to seer, and half the time I am wrong. So like, I might hear the barrier start at the right side and move to the leftas I'm driving, I hear the little sonar noise saying that it is right in line to be collided with by the car, but it tuurns off as the barrier continues to pan to the left. So I wait till the last minute and then boost up and steer right at the same time. I tap the f key because even a tiny tap will send the car careening in the direction you want, and hit the wall a lot, and I still hit the barrier half the time. So I don't think you are supposed to move in the opposite direction of it. So I tried moving the same direction, so left as it was moving left but ahead of it so it would hopefully appear somewhere off to my right as I pass it but that also didn't work, so what gives? I still haven't managed to get more than a silver metal on brutal defenses, because I haven't mastered these barriers and I really want to.

Man online play would be absolute beast! I dig that 1000%. Also smg, have you considered setting up your own webstore and selling there? I'd hate for Itch or Steam to take most of the game money you're making from these sales. and I'm sure they take a good chunk. These guys don't do anything, just host the game and rip people off haha. perhaps for a huge developer it's not a big deal, as they sell thousands of copies, but man that gotta hurt if you're an indie dev.Another idea could be: publish on Playstation or Xbox. I don't know if that's a good idea, since I have no clue how much development costs on those platforms, but there are millions of gamers there.What you really need, is a huge push, and tons of exposure. and I'm not sure how we can go about doing that.

I think it would be a lot more cost effective to add multiplayer race support with the patreon money. You could either set up a central server or have users host their own ones and require  IP addresses and port forwarding, but it would not cost you any more money, and would add hundreds of hours of replay value to the game because people would want to perfect each track in order to get a leg up on their competitors. Wheras adding a DLC pack would cost hundreds of dollars, and who knows how much you'd actually get back. For 5 tracks, that's $500 if each one is $100, and if you charge say $4 for it, you would have to make 125 sales in orer to even break even. This doesn't even consider the amount of time you spend. You could instead charge $5-$10 for the multiplayer module (I'm sure people here would buy it), and do a bit more work but it would cost you less money.

What I'd really like to do, in addition to fixing all the last bits of accessibility, is to create a DLC expansion.  I'd like at least 5 new tracks, but that would take around $100 per track for licensing, if I were to get the tracks cheap.  I'm trying to strike a deal with one of the artists that I've already used.  I'd also like to include a bunch of new missions somewhere in the existing mission structure.  However, I can't afford to spend the time or money on that.  I guess that's why I'd like to use patreon for, but I'm not sure I'd get enough support there.

It seems like perhaps the users who are getting crashes are just running out of memory, but that is only a guess.  They all have had 4 gigabytes of ram.  The game uses about 500 megabytes of ram.  I'm curious how much memory your computer has free normally if you have 4 gigabytes of ram?

I just uploaded a new version 1.1.8c which adds a bunch more information to the log files to do with the crash that some users on Windows 7 are getting.  If you happened to be getting a crash, it would really help if you could play again with this version (you can check the version with F1 at the title screen) and send me your logs.  I don't need the crash.dmp file because it hasn't been useful for this particular problem.

A soundtrack on another site likely won't happen due to licensing difficulties.  If you buy the soundtrack on Steam, you'll get MP3 files in soundtrack folder that you can do whatever you like with.  But even that version of the soundtrack is missing a few tracks due to the aforementioned licensing issues.

Hmm, you make an interesting point. I'm not sure actually. I don't think they're tied to an account though, it's just a redeemable thing. I'll wait for SMG's response on it though. I haven't purchased the itch game yet, but I wouldn't want him losing sales. I think the question really is, are devs actually required to include steam keys on itch? or is it optional? If it's required, then it makes sense that it'd be for personal use. if it's optional, he could've had any number of reasons for including it.

I think when you buy the game on itch you also get a steam key with it. I already have the game on Steam, so I'll probably gift my Steam key to someone! But yeah, if you guys can double dip, totally do it. I tried the itch demo, and just the fact that I downloaded the thing and immediately played it made life so much easier. There are many people here that live in countries where access to paypal and other payment methods are tough, so perhaps if you don't want your free Steam key, consider giving it to them? I just had a few ideas. first would be for a way to know which missions aren't fully complete. so for instance if we click the left stick down, we're told if we're missing gold medal and bonus objectives and the name of the missions we're missing. it'll be way faster than scrolling through all the missions to figure out if we're missing stuff. Another is to have narration messages by pressing left stick down during a race. it's great that the game narrates this automatically, but sometimes, when I'm racing and paying attention to the notes, I tend to miss it. or else I think I'm in first and turns out I didn't hear the change cause I was concentrating on the racing portion. that's all. Hopefully that's easy to implement.

ah found the problem I was having. Sometimes my NVDA gets into a state where it eats held keys down. So like in crazy party, I can't move  through menus because it checks to see if the arrow keys are held down. PuttingNVDA in to sleep mode fixes this problem, as does restarting it. So that was why my holds and my speed boost weren't working.

I just tried playing with holds on audio cues 1. So I hear the sequence with the hold, i hold it as long as it's supposed to, and I get it wrong. Not sure why exactly. I do know sometimes one of the holds keeps going while another one starts, but sometimes the first one stops before the second one starts even when you're supposed to still hold it in. I was trying it on demon hustle on ultra mode, and then I encountered a similar problem on nothing like normal on standard difficulty. So I must be doing something wrong.Also, I was trying out fresh meat on audio cues 2 mode on standard, and I couldn't activate m speed boost. I pressed h when I had power in my meter, and held it down, but it just put me into hyperdrift.

Nice idea with the holds! I have a suggestion on how to make them less annoying, but maybe I am totally off the mark here.I hear a stutter/repeating effect in the hold cues, which is what makes them most annoying for me. I'm only guessing here, but it sounds like you're looping a small part of the original drum sounds to try to make them hold. I think they would be less annoying if the loops were longer. Maybe put a big reverb on the drum sounds and loop that reverb instead? You could get a much longer loop that way that doesn't repeat nearly as often, if at all.At present I think the hold effect is quite a bit louder than it needs to be. The way I'm hearing it in my mind, you would hear the drum sound, and along with that, you'd hear the reverb I mentioned at a lower volume. That kind of effect is an obvious one, so it doesn't have to be loud, so long as it can be heard over the music and other sounds.As for a sound when you need to release a hold, I'm not sure if it's needed. Right now I'm leaning toward no, but I haven't actually tried playing with holds so my opinion may well change.hth

Just started playing with holds, already getting 28 out of 28. So end sound is probably not necessary, held sound indicator is plenty.I'm wondering something though. has the game been tweaked recently? like the note patterns? I noticed there are a lot less notes on the "not normal" mission, which I was using to test holds. I actually went into options, cause I thought maybe I somehow enabled the fewer notes checkbox, but it was definitely off. I've been playing on audio cues 2 recently so it surprised me a little. I do hope cues 2 is never changed. In fact, now that holds are in place, I would not mind at all if there was an option to enable visual cues for that mode. I would love to challenge sighted friends, and I'm sure we get the exact experience so there should not be any advantage/disadvantage for  anyone.

let us mess with it first. I don't think that's necessary. it'll cause audio overload. we should know for sure after a bit of testing. the holds make perfect sense, because they take place in parts of the songs with held notes, so like keyboard sections and whatnot.

exactly! 100% agree with this statement. If it were up to me, you'd be right on Steam's front page. There aren't enough words to express our appreciation of what you have done. You probably came into this project not quite knowing what you needed to do to make the game playable for us. But clearly that didn't stop you. @Special Magic Games, thank you so much for the extra cues for the barrier, these really help and I was able to complete the bonus objective for Rush to Delivery as well.As the others have said before me, don't feel pressured for not adding things quick enough, you have done a lot more to ensure that blind players have the same, or at least a very close, experience than 99% of mainstream developers in their entire lifetime. Even if things slow down, I think you have proved countless times that we are in good hands. Sequence Storm is massively underrated, which I am hoping will change in the near future.Off to post my long-due review

1. No, there is no racing atmosphere realy. But you do hear sounds for the other rigs, the walls of the track etc. But it's very scifi and futuristic, and is there to let you know what's going on more than for atmosphere.2. No, all of the music is of a similar dance/house style. I'm a big fan of the music, and it's probably fitting since this is meant to be a futuristic game where AI has taken over, but still. It would be interesting if other genres were there, but somehow I feel like that would break the vibe. But who knows, it would still be cool anyway.3. Yes, I believe all of the missions are more or less playable. I believe I've completed everything, at least on standard, but some things do get really hard, and the difficulty is still being curved. But, basically everything is accessible so far as I understand, and the dev is planning on further refinements. So if you don't know whether it's worth buying the game, I'd say totally go for it. If you like the demo, you shouldn't be disappointed with the full game.

Hi!First, thank you so much for making this game accessible. I haven't tried it further than the demo version yet, but I'm planing to buy it of course. I have some questions though to make sure I fully understand the idea.1. Since it's an ibride between a rythme game and a racing game, is there a point where we start to hear some racing atmosphere ? I mean, no probleme if not but since I lve the idea of a neurodrived car, it would have been nice if the race itself was as immersive as the music on which it is based.2. Are there some variation in the music style? I definitly understand the purpose of this type of music for a rythme based game, but I would appreciate a rock design or a metal design as well. Actualy it would bring me a much more immersive experience, just my thoughts of course.3. Finally, is the game on its way to be fully playable? hahaha no doubt about it, you're really good at this. I now find myself wondering if I should stick with the two beat option or go back to a single beat. it's a mixed bag. on one hand 2 you have more reaction time, but also more notes to play per beat since you get the cues a little earlier. however it's probably a good thing to get used to if I ever decide to tackle a harder difficulty using this mode. man, decisions decisions! haha. Do you play fighting games at all, if so we must do a few round of mortal kombat. if you're as good at MK as you are in this game I'm gonna get bodied. haha

steering is very sensitive. when you do it, just tap left or right. don't hold the button or you'll crash. tap and continue boosting and you'll be fine. you can also use hyper instead of boost.

Hi, I have been having loads of fun playing sequence storm over the weekend, and had been finishing all the missions on standard difficulty with a gold medel and the bomuses if any. Until I got to the barriers bonuses and avoid crashing into other racers, that is. still getting the gold medels, but it ircs me a bit not being able to get the bonuses there. Could someone here guide me a bit in regards to stearing, avoiding walls and other racers? I guess with practice and a bit of playing around I might eventually figure it out, which I will be doing anyway, but doesn't hurt to ask here, eh?  Again, Thanks @special magic games, Sequence storm is the most fun I have had playing a game in a long long time. Which reminds me, I am logged on to steam on my browser, but don't see a way to rate/ review it, do I need to have played it for a certain time before I can review, or am  I missing something really obvious?CheersGrryf

yep people definitely never tried to do that. this is of course the reason why you're the greatest developer on the planet. hahaha. You're now training our brain to think and react in a whole new way we haven't done before. I've played games like rock band before, and I've memorized countless guitar charts on expert, and even done pro keys and everything, but it isn't the same. memorizing something by playing it a bunch of times in practice mode, and training your mind to react to cues soon after they are heard is a different beast. It's sight reading for the blind. what do we call this in our case? ear reading? audio reading? lol.

I'm not sure if the expert levels are possible with how they are presented.  However, for most sighted players, they are equally brutal.  BUT! you must recognize that many sighted players have been playing similar games for more than a decade, and therefore have an enormous advantage.  Nobody has ever tried to translate this kind of gameplay into a blind-accessible mode, so the results are still up in the air.  I'm sure if you played for a few years, you might have a different view of the difficulty.

Also, regarding the crashes on Windows 7.. I would appreciate it if anybody that was getting crashes could reproduce them and send me their logs and crash dumps.  It seems like maybe those players have moved on.  I only got one dump so far but it turned out that it wasn't helpful, other than indicating that the problem might be some kind of memory leak.

Version 1.1.7 (you can check the version with F1 at the title screen) adds a warning beep when you are about to collide with a rival or a barrier.  I'd like to know what you think of that.  I think it should help with those missions where you need to either avoid or cause a collision.I still want to do more balancing on the audio cues.  I intend to get all of those tricky missions to a place where I can complete them and the bonus objectives myself.Also, I have an idea about how holds will work.  I just need to get it done.  I really want to push and get everything done, I just need some more energy!
