Re: The Bsc is back!

I may have to do that at some point if I get the urge to play any of the BSC titles badly enough. It's looking like that might be the only option.Yes, as far as I can tell, this issue got worse when the Creator's update came out. On the anniversary update, it took a bunch of fiddling, but I did eventually get them all to run. As I said, I really don't know what exactly the final piece of the puzzle was that got them working. Oddly enough, on that machine, Hunter was the only game that gave me a lot of problems. It would often freeze, or the sounds would randomly stop playing. On this computer, Hunter works great, but the rest, including Classic Pipe and Classic Troopanum, do not.

Re: The Bsc is back!

Is this behaviour exclusive to the Creator's update? There's a similar discussion going on over at blind-gamers. It doesn't look too good. Clearly the games have not changed. If you know VMWare you can whip yourself up an XP machine and then turn down the audio latency. Yeah it's painful, but it's a one-time setup and all this nonsense goes away.

Re: The Bsc is back!

I am having the same problem. Hunter works okay, though there is an odd error message when finishing a normal game (though not a random adventure) however pipe 2 and troopanum 2 I am having no luck, I get the dam error message. I've also tried all the things Turtlepower mentioned and none of them did any good. It's a shame I'd love to get pipe 2 and troop 2 working,  also rather odd considering that these are literally the only! games I've had trouble running on windows 10. superliam, Kitchinsinc, the Esp pinball titles, all are absolutely fine.

Re: The Bsc is back!

Unfortunately, that isn't working for me. I really wish I knew what I did on my other computer to make these games run. Nothing I've tried on this machine, including running the executables directly, setting compatibility mode to first Windows 7, then XP, running the program as an administrator with said compatibility settings applied, and making sure that all older versions of the VB Runtime, .net Framework and DirectX were properly installed, has made any difference. For some odd reason, Hunter is the only BSC title that will work. While I can use my other computer if I want to play these titles, it's really not convenient. Both my machines are running the creator's update of Windows 10. The only difference that I can see is that, when I purchased this machine, I did a clean install of the Creator's update directly. It was purchased with Windows 7, and I wanted to obliterate that and start fresh. My other computer, however, has gone through several forma
ts, but the pertinent information for this discussion is that it ran the anniversary update, and the games ran fine. I then did an upgrade, since I didn't feel it needed to start from square one. The games continued to work. So, whatever I did to the other system clearly had that info stored in the registry, which carried over when I upgraded. I just really wish I knew what the hell I did.

Re: The Bsc is back!

Hi all,I don't mean to bump the topic, but I am yet another person having issues getting these games to run on win 10 64 bit, and was wondering if there is a definitive solution, or an equally definitive lack of one. I have installed Blast Chamber, Hunter and Troopanum2 on this machine. When I launch Blast Chamber and Troopanum, I get Error 432: File name or class name not found during Automation operation while loading file gameIntro. On the other hand, Hunter refuses to do anything at all though the process still hangs out in Task Manager. I even tried launching the games without running the configuration and got the same error, the only difference being that the file it got stuck on was sayConfigFirst. This leads me to believe that this is an execution issue and not a sound decryption issue as I initially expected after having read a few other people's takes on it.Here is what I've tried:Installing DX8 even though newer versions that come
with Windows *should* work.Installing WinKit.Installing the VB Runtimes package that Jack linked to earlier in this topic.Running the games as adman in compatibility mode for XP.Installed some other old games like Super Deekout and Judgment Day, which do work, though with somewhat odd behavior at times. I had a similar issue on my Win 7 machine and installing Super Deekout on that fixed many problematic games on that, but sadly that didn't help in this case.Disabled both UAC and Defender because I don't need either of them.I'm about to restart one last time, and if all else fails I will just have to put up with playing them on an XP VM, of which I have one at the ready. I suppose it's not a huge deal but I don't like using VMs for more than I have to. They lag and are more clunky. But if that's what I will have to do, I won't complain much.

In fact one of my first serious and great games I plaid with a friend, was troopanum in spanish back in 2007.I have all of the BSC games and software, but here's my horrible problem. All of my registration stuff is corrupted, since I don't play any of the BSC titles a very very long time ago. However when I try to get  the unpatchers from pitermach's site, it gives me a forbidden thinggy, like 404 or something like that.If anybody can give me some indications on how to do it myself manually, or if you guys  can fix that problem, that'll be very apreciated. Thanks!

So, when it's convenient will do nicely.Regarding wmaudioredist.exe having a corrupted signature, I think IE doesn't know what it's talking about or is confused. When I looked at the file's properties in Windows Explorer, the signatures tab showed that all the signatures were OK. Go figure! And thanks for the tip about Blast Chamber being Pipe 2, I'll probably just rename the file to make it more obvious to me since I never knew that Blast Chamber was the sub title for Pipe 2. I wasn't blind until late in 2013 so I wasn't around when BSC was.Where are my manners? Thanks to everyone involved in making these games available! It is very much appreciated!

Re: The Bsc is back!

Hi,For pipe 2, you're looking for "blast chamber", which was the game's subtitle. Note that I actually never managed to run any of the newer BSC games that have encrypted sounds on anything newer than Windows 7 (that is pipe 2, troup 2 and hunter), and I did install all dependencies. Not sure what's going on with the wmaaudioredist file, perhaps it got corrupted at some point. I'll see about reuploading it if this is the case. The virus warning is most likely a false positive, but in any case there's 2 other classic pipe setups in the "old classic versions" folder that have the original sounds so you should still be able to get the game to run. I'll see about fixing the permissions on the unregistration patches  folder, though this may take a few days as I think my password might have been lost during the server move and Ghorthalon is currently experiencing internet issues. In any case it's unlikely yo
u'll need to use any of those files for the moment.

In the paid games folder, MSE says that ClassicPipeSetup.exe has a Win32/Dynamer Trojan. And none of the unregistration patches can be downloaded, they all produce 403 forbidden errors.I'd bet that MSE is producing a false positive, and I will just ignore the invalid signature for now. Folks, we've got an update! A while back I contacted Igor about hosting Hunter, since he was basically second lead-programmer of the game, thus Dan couldn't give permission for that one, hence my decision to hold back on hosting the Bsc stuff. Today, I got an email not from him, but from Justin Daubenmire himself! officially stating that it's all good to host the key generator and games. So, up they go, in a matter of days, and up goes the alternative mirror for immediate downloads. A big thanks to Dan and Justin for this, now people can officially relive/try these games. I'll also be hosting the software on the audio games archive, because well why not? There's been no official central host of these titles since their closing up till now, and best to put if all in one place.

Re: The Bsc is back!

Most games now, unless they are very old, need DirectX 9, which is included in all versions of Windows newer than XP.

Re: The Bsc is back!

I will note that from a purely logistical perspective, classic troopanum and pipe are probably the least crytical of Bsc's titles since pretty much all of the gameplay of both exists in their respective sequels, though sounds are different and some gameplay works not quite in the same way, particularly in classic pipe. Back in 2006 I bought pipe 2 and troop 2 relatively quickly, but after trying the demos decided not to buy either of the prequals because it seemed I wouldn't be getting much new for my money. So, while it will be an arse if the two original games don't work on windows 10, it's not quite as bad as if blast chamber or hunter didn't.

Re: The Bsc is back!

As soon as I am able to download these titles I will start trying to figure out if they can be run under Wineskin on Mac. Hopefully Mac users won't be left in the dark. I played all of BSC's games back in the day and I can tell you they brought a bored teenage version of me a lot of fun on long, hot summer days. Glad they're being brought back from the grave.

Ah, I knew it was some rogue dependency that was missing. Would you mind hooking me up with that installer if possible?

Re: The Bsc is back!

I used to have a zip file containing a manual installer for the windows media audio components. It's the exe that doesn't seem to work under windows 10. Pipe also seems to require a visual basic 5 library. For that, I now have a complete visual basic runtime plus package, that has all versions of vb in one easy-to-install package.

Re: The Bsc is back!

Unfortunately, this is only true for Pipe 2, Troopanum 2 and I believe Hunter, as well as all the free titles such as Finger Panic and Deakout. I could never get neither the original Pipe nor the original Troopanum to run under Windows 10, and I hear it can't be done. I hope someone comes up with a solution for that.

Re: The Bsc is back!

If they are like Jim Kitchen's games, they just need the Visual Basic 6 runtime libraries. I've heard that installing Jim's WinKit will install them as well as the menu for his games and an old version of his Life board game.I myself just went over to Microsoft's web site and downloaded their Visual Basic run time library redistributables for Visual Basic 6 Service Pack 6.

At last! These titles have been brought back from the dead! I will update the archive when i get permission to do Hunter as well. Then db changes can be made once links are ready, which should hopefully be soon.

Re: The Bsc is back!

@Figment nope, all Bsc's games are for Windows, the problem they had was support on Windows 10 I believe, though since people have run games written in vb6 on windows 10 including bsc's with the correct dependencies I'm not exactly sure what the precise issue was.Either way, pipe 2 is pretty cool, one of the best arcade style titles we've had I think. I found the first pipe slightly dull since there wasn't enough going on, (one reason I never bought the game back in the day), but pipe2 definitely doesn't have that problem at all.
