Re: mixing in reaper

Depends. The way I do it is insert a new track, add the instrument I want, move the play head so that it is equal to where I want it, and then I hit R. Otherwise if its something else, say like, a sample that I want to get exactly on the bass drop or something, then I paste the file wherever I want it.Also, it seems like you are fairly, if not fully, new to Reaper. Here are some commands to help you out.Control T: Creates a new track. You will be asked to input a name for the track, and then it will be created.F: Edit the effects of a track.Control Left / Right arrow: Cycle between items in a track.I: Edits the track settings, like volume, gain, pan, etc.Shift F: Edits the effects of the master track. The master track is the entire project iself. Anything you do here, such as adding reverb, changing volume, adding limiters, etc, will be reflected on your entire project.Shift I: Master track settings.Left and Right arrow: Adjust the play head in small increments.Up and Down arrow: Move between tracks.Page up: Move backward a measure on the head.Page down: Move forward a measure on the head.Control Page up: Move backward a beat on the head.Control Page down: Move forward a beat on the head.Control Home and End: Jump to the end or start of your project.Hope this helps, and good luck with your song.

Re: mixing in reaper

As is usually the case with reaper, you can accomplish this in a manner of different ways.  Do you already have the instrument recorded?  If so, just paste it in where you want it.  If not, record it on a separate track.  Once you have the track created just move to the place where you want to start recording and punch record.  Alternatively, use time selection auto punch, which is a bit more complex but will give you more flexibility over where the recording starts and stops, which is good if you don't have more than two hands and will not be at the stop button when that extra measure/bar comes in you really don't need to record on and don't want to edit out of.  The choice is really yours as to how you go about it, but there you have a couple of ideas.
