You do not have to transcode MP3 to AAC. iPod excepts MP3. I do not
think that transcoding to AAC will get you anything. I maintain a FLAC
library and transcode to another directory that only iTunes sees. I
only transcode what I want to put on the iPod.

Are you running your itunes on your Macs or on your PCs? I've used
iTunes on my Macs and I like how it is, but I've never tried it on my
PC and I'm wondering how it is on PCs.

lossless for quality listening and connect SB to this. But for routine
listening and ipod sync I maintain a second PC (transfering files
lossless => VBR maximum mp3 or higher). I can connect my 5x SBs to
either one quite easily.
