Thanks for the answer. Well, I would want to go with the following
upgrade route :
- SB3 or Duet (have both) + Lavry DA-10 (current setup) to -
- TP standalone, or TP + Lavry to -
- TP + more expensive external DAC (I am considering EMM Labs, Berkeley

reprogramming the xilinx never hurts but that's a long shot. Hold power

The only setting I can think of that might interfere with the digital

If you want to check the power supplies it is easy enough to do - IF it

you see 110V going in (3-pin connector) and nothing coming out (4-pin

Good to know, I move ahead on that but this sentence
Well, if you have a very good DAC, the sound should be better with the
digital outs of the transporter than with those of the SB3. But I doubt
very much that the Lavry DA-10 is a better DAC than the one in the
transporter. It could well be that if you buy the transporter, the Lavry
DAC has to
I still have the problem, that I do not find the right tool to open the

tools.
I will update this thread, when I have discussed the issue with the

What are your setting on the Audio page for the Transporter? You can set
alternative options for Digital Output Encoding etc. You probably want
the Volume Control fixed at 100% too.

My question was pretty simple I guess is it viable to buy a
transporter only to use it as a transport (via the digital outs), when I
already have a SB3 and a SBC ?

Well, I suppose that the Denon's preamp stage covers (and influences)
most of the differences between your DAC8 and the Transporter analog
output.
On the other hand, if you consider that the highs do appear to be
quite brittle and harsh, especially at loud volumes then,

I did A/B them with a Northstar192 dac.
Not much difference, if any. Not enough, in any case, to justify the
price difference imho.
The TP is a nice dac in itself, and keeping transport+dac
I want to use my transporter as a DAC for my mac mini, as well as my

In my case was the opposite of themis. I use the transporter as a

The volume is set at fixed 100%.
I have tried the xlink reset.
I have changed digital output between SPDIf and AES/EBU.
I also chnged the startime for sound from 0 to 0,25.
But there is no signal to the dac.
Anyone who has an idea what`s wrong.

Sean is the man and if thinks it's broke, it probably is. Can you bypass
the DAC and run coax directly into your preamp?

Farq,my Transporter sits on the top shelf of my rack and always runs

i have each of my units supported by four of these pads and their

If it's the case (if I understood properly) I advise you to use only
one amp. Amplifiers interact with speakers, two amplifiers interact
differently (damping factors, etc) and they can rarely
maybe it's using a surround encoding? Any option in system preferences

Other than that, maybe try playing it into an AV receiver and
confirming that it works and comes up as PCM.

The right tool is a 1/16 allen (hex) wrench, but a 1.5mm will also
work.
Often the easiest way to get these smaller tools is as part of a set -
this one is my favorite:

A torx T-6 also fits almost perfectly.
