I cannot see the point of releasing the likes of any Beatles recording
in 24 bit. At least 8 of those bits are wasted on a 1970's recording as
noise from the original tapes along with inherant non linear element of
tapes.
As for the volume issue, alot of it is down to the A weighting curves of

OK. I will try using a laser to zap those cells in the ROM one by one

Sadly I work

Nah. Waste of time. I found it sounded even better by typing the hex
straight into a hex editor and saving that as a kernal. The sound was
much more warmer with added colour in the bass.

Probably one of the best concise explanations I have seen.
Don't you just love that 1980's superb HP kit.

At 50/60Hz the effect will be non existent. It's schoolboy maths.

That's what's so good about standards. There are so many variations of
them;)

this out.
They may sound different, but none will be accurate. Digital audio has
no such limitations.

Naim have been making top quality amps for years, so I doubt this very
much.

quantisation distortion which is higher as the number of overall bits is
decreased.

as the left hand bit represents the
sign bit and +128 to -128 would require 9 bits (the extra to represent
the -sign on an 8 bit word). You are on the right tracks though in your
understanding.

of a bell, but is a measure of power which is
proportional to voltage squared that comes out as 10 * it's square ie
10*2=20. (school stuff:)
20 log 2(twice the amplitude) = +6db
20 log 1/2 (half the amplitude) = -6dB.
So the OP using 6db plus or minus is a good analogy.

circuits should be drawing a very low current. Very important in the
design of power amplifiers though.
Google Thevenin if you need clarification.
