With the exception of prerequisite tests, tests in Autoconf are conceptually independent. You can carry out AC_PROG_LEX and AC_PROG_YACC concurrently. Has any thought been given to heading in this direction in the future? On 8-way Linux machines, build times can be dominated by the `configure' script--once configured, a tree can be compiled in a fraction of the overall time. Perhaps the introduced complexity isn't worthwhile, but I wanted to start a discussion. Ben
