Wait.. the initial machine I saw this on must have been a powerpc32 machine, so
32bit vs. 64bit

I run awesome on both 32bit and 64bit, but the issue came up on 64bit. Not sure
about the 32bit

I can confirm that this behaviour is still existant in awesome 3.1 (Helicopter)
