(square) mask (8bits alpha pixmap) - dst (rounded, smooth?).
The reason cairo doesn't support 1 bit is because no hw from this
century will support it. Just use 8bits.

Just to be clear, xrender composite (the act of blending images
together) is not the same as the composite extention. And the first
works fine without the a compositing manager.
