Strange characters in Axis SOAP response

Hi, When Axis returns a SOAP response, we get som strange numeric characters in the XML (see the response below). This characters seem to result in The root element is missing exception. Does anybody know why these numbers are returned in the xml and is there a way to avoid them. Thanks and
