Re: [Ayatana] Unity Interface in Ubuntu 12.04
I had similar thoughts once, but now I think this: when you open Nautilus you have a menù on the left, fully customizable, that allows to choose the folder you need to open. So in Unity bar you need "only" to open Nautilus, then choose from its menù. Operations lasts 2 clicks for folders in menù. Where is the necessity to add names to icon? It seems faster, but you need: right click and left click, just the same number of operations at least. Does this configuration slow down Unity? Does this configuration look like different from Unity style? In my opinion Unity is a Desktop Environment that educates people on the rational use of desktop computers. Re: [Ayatana] Unity Interface in Ubuntu 12.04
But even if you think that an App Lens launcher isn't a good idea, if you think about the Files Lens it make more sense. Unity is being built to use Lens right? So why create a launcher to nautilus instead of the Files Lens? The launcher would then have a quicklist to Home Folder... Maybe i'm not seeing the big picture, but i just think it makes more sense and it helps the transition to unity. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ayatana Post to : ayatana@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ayatana More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
Re: [Ayatana] Unity Interface in Ubuntu 12.04
A) That's old 11.04 screenshots. IIRC the lenses are to be movable to the launcher in 12.04, not sure about filters as quicklists, through :P B) How the filters act in 11.04 and 11.10 and 12.04 is exactly what you are describing - selecting the "internet" filter will only show you internet apps, the "media" one only media apps etc... The difference is that in 11.04 filters were accessible through both - quicklists on the lens in the launchers and via the Dash and in 11.10 they are only accessible via the Dash, but (read A) ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ayatana Post to : ayatana@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ayatana More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
Re: [Ayatana] Unity Interface in Ubuntu 12.04
It would be faster; fewer clicks; the filter in the lens is a bit confusing as it has too many app category, some that don't even have apps to filter (default install) and it would help people that are used to the way the gnome 2 menu worked. It wouldn't work exactly like the gnome menu, but it would be similar, something that makes the transition tu unity a bit easier, i think. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ayatana Post to : ayatana@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ayatana More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ayatana] Unity Interface in Ubuntu 12.04
Yes! Something like that... but with the same quicklist options as the Nautilus launcher, and when left clicking it would open the File Lens instead of the Home folder. And maybe something similar to the Apps Lens, that would be great for people like me that love the way unity is working, through Lens, and at the same time it would create something like the gnome 2 menu, for people that miss it... A quicklist for the Media category or Internet app category that opens the app lens only showing those apps would be awesome! How did you add that to your launcher?? Re: [Ayatana] Unity Interface in Ubuntu 12.04
Hi Marco! Thank you very much for your reply! Yes i had already tried the Bliss Lens, my post wasn't really about changing the App Lens. It was about creating 2 new shortcuts in the launcher, making it easier to access the current App Lens and File Lens. Adding quicklists to these 2 new "shortucts" with the main Favorite Folders and the main App Categorys/Types, would make the workflow faster, easier and more Lens centric. As things are right now, we only use the launcher to access apps faster, and folders (through quicklist)... I think if we could access the Lens faster or more directly, people might use it more. In my opinion people still think in opening files going through folders and not using Lens, it would just be easier to change that if instead of a nautilus shortcut in the launcher we had a Files Lens shortcut with the same quicklist options (maybe adding the Home folder to that quicklist). The same applies for apps. I have installed Ubuntu in many of my friends and family computers, i have shown a few of them, the changes introduced in 12.04 and watched them explore the new unity, and in my opinion they keep thinking in terms of files in folders and don't really use the Files Lens or Music Lens. But that's just my opinion, maybe i'm wrong and you have had different results. 2012/2/5 Marco Kirchberger > Have you tried the Bliss Lens? > > http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2011/11/unity-bliss-an-alternative-application-lens-for-ubuntu/ > > > Mit freundlichen Grüßen / kind regards > *Marco Kirchberger * > *email* ma...@e-kirchberger.de > *mobil* 0151/19412771 > > Am 05.02.2012 15:30, schrieb Morais: > > Hello! > > I'm a big fan of Ubuntu and the Unity interface and wanted to ask a > few questions about the design.
