Ellen, The passaporte lists (emigration from the Azores) are online only for the port of Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel from 1875-1939. There are gaps. You can access it here, but you need to use Internet Explorer (IE) or Safari (Firefox will stop working part of the way in).

Honestly, the *EASIEST* way to do this is to first try to get your hand on the ship's manifest for your Grandfather. Ancestry.com has a search function that helps to narrow manifests down by name to make them easier to spot. Once you get a hold of that, life becomes much easier when looking
