Hi Jim, I live in Hawaii and is also a descendent of de Souza. My great grandfather Guitao de Souza came to Hawaii in 1883. His wife was Maria Ferreira. I can't find his name on the manifest but he was also know as Caetano or Caitano de Souza. They had a child Maria born in 1882 in Azores

Sorry Jim, I can't help you. What you need is to find out what village your father was born in the Azores and start at that point. My Sousas are from the Ribeira Grande area and none of mine went to Hawaii. So, we don't have a connection there. I posted this information, because in looking

The top line says there is a fault (mistake) in the record and below it gives the correct information. It gives Emilia daughter of Manuel Francisco and Lucia de Jesus born 22 day and baptized the 24 day of 1834. Not sure about the bottom it says something about the register not having
