Good Morning,
I am hoping for your help.
Where do I write to get Birth, Marriage records for Pico and Horta?
What format do I write the address?
How much does it cost for the record?
What information on the person do I need to provide?
Thank you so much for your help.
Respectfully,
Fawn U,
The answer to all your questions and a form letter can be found here:

As for the cost, I'm not sure. I haven't had to write away for a record
for a long time. I think it's around $20 a record though. Others who have
written recently will answer that part.

Ria,
They are called Multi Bank Boxes (possibly Multi Banco Caxia? in
Portuguese). There's a button to have the screens displayed in
English.
As for if you can use your Visa card (or MasterCard for that matter),
you will have to call the bank that issued your card to find out about

I was catching up on reading my Dick Eastman newsletters/blog and he had a
little bit more information on the Y-DNA 12 test. Sounds like they will be
lowering the basic mtDNA test too. You can read it here:

Doug,
When this happens, you can email FTDNA at: i...@familytreedna.com. They
will look and see if there is a 2nd email addy listed and give them your
email note addy. If that doesn't work, they can mail a letter via post.
She is not part of the Azores project, so you'll have to have FTDNA
Wow Eric! I can't thank you enough for finding this information for me!
This is very, very helpful, and might have taken me years to find. Louis
Jr. left the family in 1941 and nobody ever knew what happened to him, so I
thought there was no way I'd find his parents. Thanks again, Kathleen

I was reading that credit cards in Europe have smart chips and there may be
a problem with some machines accepting ours with the magnetic strips. Once
again I would check with your credit card company.

All,
A 12 marker test is a great place to start. I paid for the 67 marker test
on my Y-DNA and didn't get even one match on the 12, so it was just a waste
of money at this point. Go with the 12 and see what you need from there.

For the past three years, I have stayed in the Azores for 12 weeks in the
summer and used my debit card from my U.S. to withdraw euros. I've never
had a problem. My bank does charge a foreign transaction fee and an
interbank charge on these transactions, which work out to about $5-6 per
