Mike G,
Yes, they list the matches with the closest or tightest or nearest
relatives listed on top.
If you want to sort it different ways though, you click the column header
and it will sort it top to bottom or bottom to top. I do that a lot with
Family Finder (FF).

Why don't you go for the Family Finder test. They just reduced the price,
too. This will test across both your mother's and father's lines and it's
said to go back as far as five generations. You don't need to have a male
or female to test in your family, only yourself. I have had much m
My Sephardic Jewish side came from Morocco to Terceira. Some lived in Lisbon,
two "sons" went to Brazil, and "my" direct line went to Boston, Mass. There
were some who lived in Holland until they were forced out and went to England
where they were more tolerant of Jews. The names are Seriqui,
Hello group haven't posted in a while, have had some medical issues but i'm
ready to get back into reseraching.
My question is, when you're looking at your DNA match's whether it's the

does that indicate the strength of th
Lee E,
Since you are in Salt Lake, bet the baptisms for the parents, the
grandparents', and the granparents' marriages. Try to trace those lines
off of Graciosa and hopefully onto an island that is currently online at
the CCA so you can research from home.

Hello Isabella,I appreciate your comments and corrections.About the 30 year comment in the article, I originally thought just like you that it was saying he was in Brasil for about 30 years. But that didn't sit right with me because when he died it was only 57. If living in Rio for 30 years, he wou
Laura,
The email address that you use for this group does not match Laura Warhurst

your mother so I know who I'm looking at and can to the correct comparison.

Doug, I have a few corrections to add to the translated text, as this
impacts a lot the way the context is perceived.
I copied the original translated paragraph that you posted and wrote a new
one just below, as follow:

Hi Doug,
Funny. No. Like most modern (well, younger than 150) Portuguese, I have 4
names. I never use my maternal surname. That 'C' stands for Carlos, and I'd
really hate to start having to use a João CN Ventura sig just to avoid
confusion.
And another factor that might have been left behind a
Thanks, Joao C! The examples are funny too! I could only imagine some
Spaniards in the room!
OK, Doug, you better double check your chart to make sure that no one was
the product of the milkman - er, water man! ;-)
Also, Doug, I asked Joao C Ventura to come up with something besides
writing "Th
Hi, Cheri!
I have a question for you. I ordered the MtDNA test and had my mother do
the test. The results came in but I have no idea how to read it and when I
check there are no matches. Her mother's mother was the child of a mother
from Faial ( her name was Maria da Conceicao) and a father from
Thank you so much for posting! Looks like street that you were on with the
stairs down to the beach is the street where my grandparent's house is
located. Only saw the inside of S. Pedro two years ago on our last trip,
but have been in the Matriz several times over the years.

Thanks for the clarifications, Joao, especially for the one year thing. That makes sense. Is the C in your middle name for Cardoso, by chance? If so, that would be a coincidence because the other Joao Ventura descends from a Cardoso Ventura line from Sao Roque do Pico that moved to Terceira in the l
Hi all,
Yes, these are what we call 'false friends' words that look alike, but have
completely different meanings.. One of the best ones is
constipation/constipação, in Portuguese it simply means 'cold (sickness)',
in English you know what it means :). Best one is in Spanish though -
