This couple had children in Ponta Garca before 1709, and after, in Vila
Franca, SM. I did not do an exhaustive search so they may have gone back
and forth.

Hi Gayle,
The great grandparents are also listed in CITCEM.
Antonio Furtado Medeiros and Catarina Rodrigues. There are no birth dates for
them or their marriage. It shows their 1st child, Pedro, born in June of 1709.
I haven't looked for their marriage since the records came on line.

This link provides quite a bit of information regarding U5 including it's
distribution among European populations. It is believed to be the most
common maternal lineage of the European(hunter gatherers) who were blue
eyed and brown skinned.

Hi Paul,
I have this couple in my husband’s tree. Catherina is his 10th great aunt.
There is a note on her parents that indicates I have more information on them
in my binder (which I don’t have with me right now). I do have the marriage
date for Ignacio and Catherina if you would like it.

Hello All:
I am trying to find the birth/baptism record for my 6th ggrandfather
Francisco de Mello. I know the link below is not for him but it lists his
parents, Ignacio de Mello and Catherina da Silva so this has to be a
sibling and I am unable to read the name. The record is on the left belo
Nancy Jean,
Same as Freddy - through Josefa Clara. I know you and I have connected before
but don't know if this was the link. If you figure out the great grandparents,
I'd be interested. I'm not looking at a record at this moment, but I believe my
line ends at Jose Rodrigues Serpa and Ana Mede
Where's the link?

Thank you.
Judi, my paternal and maternal family are from Capelas. I am as well. As far as
we know when it comes to my great grand parents, it splits to other areas. I've
been able to locate family in Candelaria. Since I don't know the names of my
great grandparents, when I see records, I don't

Hi Rick,
I didn't realize U5 was fairly uncommon in the Azores..it's an interesting
MT DNA when I read about it. I posted this because I have so many Family Finder
matches that seem to be from Pico. I thought maybe it would be easier to
connect via the U5 line than just random pursuit. For F
Hi Nancy,
There are some groups of mtDNA that are uncommon. Especially if they are placed
in an isolated situation as your U5. As for me on my mother’s (French
Canadian)side it is W3a2. At this point all French Canadian W3a2 matches go to
a single person that immigrated there around 1600. My Da
Hi Gayle,
Yes, it's the same Josefa. Do you descend from her daughters down to you? In my
case, my paternal grandmother, Maria Felizarda da Castro Cardoso Baptista, had
2 sons. I was able to test my dads brother for both Y and MT DNA and she was U5.
Best to you,Nancy Jean
