Thank you! This helps tremendously.
His wife Dona Francisca's record reads almost verbatim as his does.
More sleuthing to do ahead for me.

Hi Gordon,
The Real was the Portuguese monetary unit from the middle ages until about
1910 and the end of the monarchy. A Vintem equaled 20 Reis, and a Tostao
equaled 80 (or, later, 100) Reis. What are the dates of the records you're
wondering about? I have some historic conversion rates so
Louie,
It is Manuel Costa. But, his wife is Agueda Rodrigues. The abbreviation Roiz.

All,
Does anyone know why in the CCA records for Pico, Sao Mateus baptisms go
back to 1673 yet the Marriage records only go back to 1698?
Is a book missing? Or, should I be looking in another Fregueisa?
Suggestions?
Out of luck?

It's probably going to depend on the amount of cMs that they share.
Normally, 4th would be too distant (an average of 31 cMs). But if they are
sharing 150 cMs for example, they are probably 4th cousins a couple of
different ways, such as 4C1R, 5th C, 5C1R, 6C, etc. They need to be cousins

Shortening his name by just one letter is silly, but it seems to be the
pattern in Sao Jorge Church. I looked in the obits and never found any
