Thanks "E", Joanne, Richard, Pam and MME. I'll go through your suggestions and

Yes, much thanks to all
I recently received a set of files from Suzanne Edvalson that are her extracted
death records index for Ribeira Seca, Sao Jorge. They cover 1644-1879 but be
aware that there are missing years that she has not been able to work on yet.
She plans to do that after other projects are completed. So,
Thank you Maragaret that is very helpful

I'm sorry you lost so many Jeremy. I think I lost only one or two, which
is amazing given the tremendous damage that was done.

Good to know that. Thanks Margaret.
Here is what I found Herb. When you get to Antonio Andrade Raposo and
Antonia Emilia marriage, the names I found do not exactly match. I was
speculating it was going to be the Santos Raposo line of Nordeste that I am
familiar with. But as you can see, it is
I’ve come across birth announcements when going through the papers on
microfilm but I don’t know if anyone has done an index for them
specifically. Maybe contacting a librarian there might be helpful.

OMG. Thank you for asking that question. Because I will also ask if those
papers would have birth announcements. I'm helping a friend search for her
sister. She was a adopted but knows her sister was born in FR a year after
her birth.
Can't wait for the answer

Herb,
If it helps, my grandfather was an agente. After serving in the Army he
enrolled in the police force and became an Agente (Policeman).

The Fall River Public Library has an obituary index that may be of help.
They have the FR Herald News on microfilm there so if you can find your
relative in the index they should be on film. I need to make another trip
there soon so if you'd like
Google Ask A Librarian Fall River MA and send them an email.
