Dan, there is a cemetery for Nordeste but if you are looking for someone in particular, you should check their obituary record to make sure they were not buried in the “Fazenda” of São Jorge. In many, many cases you will find that people from the islands were buried in a communal plot. This

Hi Dan L, Since the Azores are islands, land is pretty important. Generally, when a person dies, they are buried for 7 years. After that, their bones are dug up and placed in an ossuary. If the family wants the deceased there longer than 7 years, they may pay to have the person to stay there.
