I FOUND IT...Manuel and Jeannie(new spelling)came from San Jorge
Island,Azores!
Now what do I do to trace them back to Portugal?
I found so much information and photos through the Sonoma Historical
Society and the Sonoma Library that I am still sorting it all out.

Adair,
You may not get back to Portugal. There are times we run into the pai
incognito and cannot research back any further. There are times when the
records run out and that ancestor is what is called the end of line
ancestor. Sometimes the records are so badly damaged we can't read them.
Adair,
Her given name at birth was most likley Eugenia.

Adair,
You need to try and find out where in Sao Jorge they came from. Or
else you will have to go through all the Sao Jorge church records. I
tried to find Manuel on the Sao Miguel Passportes, but it looks like
he came here the year before they are listed online. I believe he is

Thank you Cheri,
I guess my main purpose would be to see how Manuel and his wife
connect to the other Borba's in California. I think there is a
brother of Manuels(Antone) in Northern California.
I am wondering who he/they came over with which would clarify the link.

Adair,
The others may not be Borbas. The brother could have gone by the mother's
surname (to honor her side). As you go back in time, you'll find that the
surname isn't Borba either. It will change, but it will be stated in the
baptisms and marriage records.
