Hi Melody,

Your Joao da Costa Loureiro (6820) is my 7th Great Grandfather. My Braz da
Costa Loureiro is the brother of your Antonio da Costa Loureiro (6816). What
would be interesting would be to see if their wives , your Maria da Costa
Pimentel (6817) and my Heronima (Jeronima) de Pimentel are related as well.

Rick and others,
I don't have the Braz de Costa Loureiro from Maia in my database. I do have
Costa Loureiro's. This is a snippet of the line that I have from Maia:

1-Joao da Costa LOUREIRO-6820
b: 1642, Achada, Nordeste, Sao Miguel Isl.
d: 4 December 1721, Maia, Ribeira Grande, Sao Miguel Island
+Maria VULTOA-6821
b: about 1644, Maia, Ribeira Grande, Sao Miguel Island
m: about 1667
d: 4 December 1721
. . . . 2-Antonio da Costa LOUREIRO-6816
b: 12 January 1683, Maia, Ribeira Grande, Sao Miguel Island
. . . . +Maria da Costa PIMENTEL-6817
b: Maia, Ribeira Grande, Sao Miguel Island
m: 14 February 1707, Maia, Ribeira Grande, Sao Miguel Island
. . . . . . . . 3-Jose da Costa LOUREIRO-2062
b: 17 January 1716, Maia, Ribeira Grande, Sao Miguel Island
. . . . . . . . +Maria de MEDEIROS-2064
b: about 1720, Maia, Ribeira Grande, Sao Miguel Island

Eventually this connects to my 3rd great grandfather, Felicianno Francisco de

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Furtado/Pimentel, Achada--help with names on marriage record please

2014-06-01 Thread JR
I'm afraid they do not link up, at least as far as the records go. It is
interesting that a third brother, Manuel da Costa Loureiro, also used the
name Columbreiro. I suspect that one of his grandparents are Columbreiro's,
perhaps from Achada, where many early Columbreiro's settled. In fact I have
Joao da Costa Columbreiro as native of Achada, resident of Maia. I found
references to Joao Costa Loureiro in Ribeira Grande, where it appears he
lived for a while and his spouse, Maria Vultoa or Benevides, sometimes used
the name Benevides. Unfortunately, I cannot find my notes!!

Hello Geraldo,
I don't have this couple, but the baptism does say they were received in the

padrinhos are the brother and sister to Jose Coelho de Serpa so you might
search for them in the marriages to find the next generation back.

So in case there are others using Brother's Keeper, I can help you to read

I just got it installed and it seems to look exactly like the older

It's a free trial and you actually get the full version with the option to
send in your registration. But if you never do pay them, you still have a
full working version. I believe the term is share ware, but maybe not.

Google for Brother's Keeper 7 to download it.

Write me here for any help you need with it:

But if you are first trying it out, there is no need to convert older
version data files. You might instead have to make a gedcom from any
currently used genealogy program. If you are starting from scratch, just
 install and go for it.

I've been using this program for 18 years. I have tried many others, but
 always stuck with this one.

to send in your registration. But if you never do pay them, you still have
a full working version. I believe the term is share ware, but maybe not.

Google for Brother's Keeper 7 to download it.

Write me here for any help you need with it:
 pi...@dholmes.com

But if you are first trying it out, there is no need to convert older
version data files. You might instead have to make a gedcom from any
currently used genealogy program. If you are starting from scratch, just
 install and go for it.

I've been using this program for 18 years. I have tried many others, but
 always stuck with this one.

I've been using v7 all day today and there are only minor changes I have
noticed from version 6. I think the main improvement is at the background
level, the code, which makes it stable. It probably became an issue because
of the newer operating systems like the new Windows.

The creator of the program is also great to deal with. He always listens
to suggestions and helps with any problems. And I believe the biggest
strength was at the beginning when people from many languages could use it
in their own language. Maybe that's what you are doing. I used to have a
German version, but don't bother with that anymore.

I started with PAF the first few years and didn't like the lack of
accents back then. Brother's Keeper was way ahead of it with just about any
accents. I still can't make a certain Hungarian character with an accent
over the O, but I'm OK with that.

Which time period in Vila Franca is missing? The only one that appears to
be missing is 1663-1669 in VFSM. Is this the period you are referring to?
