[AZORES-Genealogy] Carlos Machado's livro 1

2012-03-20 Thread Tish M
Hello,

I have been looking at Carlos Machado's genealogy book and found
information concerning my grandmother's family. If anyone has information
as to who Carlos Machado is, and about how he acquired his information I
would be interested in knowing.

Thank you,
Tish

2012-03-20 Thread John Raposo
Carlos Machado was a prominant politician, philanthropist, intellectual,
genealogist and man of leisure in S. Miguel in the latter half of the 19th
century.

He spent many years combing through church vital records as well civil records
(wills, deeds, property transfers, suits in law, entailments, etc) tracing
people back to the earliest settlers. I am not aware of these genealogies being
published. Have they? I do know that there are 600 plus double sized
manuscripts at the Archives in Ponta Delgada, and one available copy at
UMass-Dartmouth. And I know that Father Joseph Viveiros spent years entering
all of the Carlos Machado data into a ged com.

Rodrigo Rodrigues's genealogies are much more expansive.

I hope this answers your question.
