The settlement of Corvo is tied to that of Flores. The entry in the Flores
history book says this for Mendonca:

E uma das mais antigas familias de Espanha ( Mendonca), cujo apelido se
uniu ao de Furtado pelo casamento de D. Diego Lopes com D. Leonor Furtado
.Fernao Furtado, filho destes, passou-se a Portugal no tempo de Dom Afonso
III.
Nas Flores, encontramos o apelido pela primeira vez em Luiza de Mendonca,
mulher de Gomes Dias Rodovalho,
 da premeira geracao nada na ilha, filho de outro Gomes Dias Rodovalho e de
Gracia Dias Fagundes,
 de quem - adiante Diogo das Chagas- ficou boa descendencia
