"Rego and Baldaia are known names in São Miguel... As for the grandmother calling [her husband] 'Sheik,' I am afraid that he is confusing [it] with the nickname 'Chico,' usually the diminuitive for Francisco." My amigo further suggests that you "contact the local Mormon Church from which [you] can get the info on the microfiche birth certificate files of all the islands."
