Cheri Antonio Serpa b. 1863 is listed as clergyman at 463 Benefit Street, East Providence in 1900 census. His sister Anna, niece Marie Neves and servant Marie Terra are living with him. Here is a history of the church that I think will answer your questions.

Wow, right church, wrong person. When my cousin, Sister Hilda Correia, took me to Holy Rosary in Providence, she told me my great-grandfather married there (he didn't. They married at St. John the Baptist in New Bedford). Sr. Hilda was friends with Father Paiva. They had served together
