I went back and looked after because the page number did not mesh with the
book dates. At that point it didn’t matter as that was not the record she was
looking for. But the correct date is 6 Apr 1783

Yes I considered that ... but I was concerned that her name was different

Maria Luis De Meneses
vs.
Maria Caetana Canto Meneses
The timing of the marriage is right ... I originally thought that was their
marriage ... but I was having second thoughts. Should I be concerned or is
Cheri thanks for your words of wisdom but i have already taken that into

You typed somewhere about the 1700s. Sao Miguel passaportes do not go back
to the 1700s. Unless you made a typo. You should probably start a new
thread, title it with her name, approximate year of birth, and Sao Miguel
island. In the body put what research you have done on her in the U.S.
Maybe

I believe you have the date right. I struggle with this one also, but I
think it is Maria de Sao Jose, widow of Domingos Furtado, about 70 years
old.

I thought the year was 1743 at first also because it looks like a loop
under the first letter; but the rest of the entries on this page look like
1783. 1743 should be much earlier in this book (it starts at 1742)

Hi Louie,
With regard to the issue of "Maria Luis/Luz de Meneses" versus "Maria
Caetana Canto Meneses": good question! I don't think it's likely to be a
mistake. But, maybe it's possible that the two names are variations used
by the same person. I think Luz can be a religious name.
sorry I
Sean,
The document reads she is a widow that she was 70 years old approximately.
Husband is not named.

Paul,
Knowing someone was from somewhere on Sao Miguel (70 or so churches,
although a few less churches in the 1770s) is like knowing someone is from
the United States and you don't know which of the 50 states to look in. And
you can't use Ancestry to search either, as the CCA isn't set up like
Thanks for these Linda
