The Sky at Night is still SD but it's broadcast as upscaled HD on BBC1 HD.
The quality is slightly better but it would be nice in proper HD.
I'm not too worried about Patrick's wrinkles (see Countryfile/Jay Hunt
affair).
I just don't see the logic of having two versions of the same programme

The other obvious solution is to just stick Sky at Night (the 30 minute
edition) on BBC HD.
There's plenty of spare time at night when the BBC HD channel is un-used.

The BBC4 edition of Sky at Night is 30 minutes long but the BBC1 edition
(and repeat on BBC2) is 20 minutes long.
Does anyone know why ?
The subtitles (from BBC iPlayer) are 30 minute and obviously don't match the
BBC1/2 edition.
As BBC1 is simulcast on BBC 1 HD it woul
American TV producers and film companies used the same argument a few years
back that if the broadcast flag wasn't allowed then they wouldn't allow HD
content to be broadcast on non-encrypted channels. Congress rejected the use
of the broadcast flag and American producers caved in and allowed HD

The BBC HD audio encoders have been on the blink recently.
The problem now seems to be fixed.
Museum of Life episode 3 the other week had the drain pipe sound effect.
It turns out that the audio track 3 (centre) was 32ms out.
The problem started before the programme began and lasted up about 24
