[backstage] BarCampLondon6 announced

2009-01-31 Thread Mr I Forrester
Hi All,

With all the talk about Digital Britian, he's a great chance to discuss
and maybe organise something (yeah not the best segway)

BarCampLondon6 has been announced at the Guardian's new offices near
Kings Cross. Saturday 28th - Sunday 29th March 2009

http://www.barcamplondon.org/ - For much more details

Tickets are still not announced but there due to come out in batches
over the coming month.

Of course BBC Backstage is a sponsor of BarCampLondon6 alongside Yahoo
and the Guardian.

Hope to see you all there...

Ian

RE: [backstage] Yahoo Widget for BBC radio and Listen Again content

2009-01-31 Thread Ray Smith
Thanks to everyone for their help and information. The revised and working
widget is at - http://widgets.yahoo.com/widgets/bbc-radio-iplayer-plus

For the next release I'm looking at various improvements in the look and
feel of the app and providing fuller program information.

Thanks

Ray

That's a useful set of links - thanks! I'd looked at feeds.bbc.co.uk a while
back for my purposes, but found a slight problem in that there's no link to
the mediaselector, so you'd have to parse the id tag to get the PID
(hoping the format of the tag doesn't change!) in order to get RealAudio
links. Perhaps it may be time for me to reconsider that...

This does illustrate one of the slight problems with mashing BBC data -
there's so many feeds to choose from, and it's not clear which are official
and stable feeds, vs experimental and/or obsolete. So far I know of, have
used, or am using:

feeds.bbc.co.uk/iplayer
www.bbc.co.uk/programmes
www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod
www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/4/mtis/stream
www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/playlist

Some have differing purposes, and I'm sure several of these were only ever
supposed to be internal, but it would be nice to know which particular feeds
we should or shouldn't be using for our experimentation.

 Ray,

I've done similar work myself for www.iplayerconverter.co.uk
(including a Now and Next Google Gadget I really must get round to
updating). I use the Audio on Demand feeds, which you can find at
 http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/availability/ station name .xml

From that you can get a title, synopsis, and link to the mediaselector
XML from which you can get the iPlayer and RealAudio links.

Only downside is that as far as I'm aware it's only for national radio
 - I'm sure someone can correct me if local radio is now available.

You have to guess a bit at the station names - this is the list of
stations I've been able to find so far.
