RE: [backstage-developer] Weather Geolocation

2008-11-26 Thread Paul Daniel
Sorry for coming rather late on this thread.

You could try using Yahoo! Pipes - http://pipes.yahoo.com.
A pipe can accept XML data using the Fetch Data module, and there is an option
to have the output of the pipe in JSON format.

Making slow progress. :)

Spent some time writing a caching routine in PHP for the feeds. We
know the feeds get updated at 8am and 8pm, right?

Any comments? Didn't quite know how to store the expiration of a file cleverly.

This is hosted temporarily on my employer's server. I'll probably move
it off sometime.

Also made a mobile friendly template. I.e. it looks fine on my Android G1.

All looks fine from here.

I recognise the behaviour you're describing though, I've seen it happen to
other websites before, never did work out what the cause was...

No, not a hack.

This happens about once a year when someone includes the frontpage
rather than the new thing they wanted to add to the page.

I note with interest that programmes from BBC Radio
Cambridge[shire] are now in the iPlayer RSS feed.

Oh, and you can watch Sheep Dog Trials in Gaelic from BBC Alba
on iPlayer too.

Fingers crossed for BBC HD...

Hi Andrew - they won't get pulled and we are hoping to
have all the local station content migrated soon

We will hopefully have Local Radio running in iPlayer in
RealPlayer format this week and more feeds should come to life then.

After that we are rolling out national and local stations
in MP3 / Flash format (national in December, Local to follow next year)

   Cheers,

Subject: [backstage] XML feeds for local radio stations

   I'm the webmaster of www.iplayerconverter.co.uk
http://www.iplayerconverter.co.uk/ , which provides easy to use
RealAudio links for iPlayer radio content based on the feeds generously
made available by the Beeb - specifically the /programmes and Audio on
Demand XML feeds.

I've noticed that some of the BBC Local Radio stations
are now starting to appear within the new /programmes structure. For
example you can use the link
http://www.bbc.co.uk/norfolk/programmes/schedules/today.xml to get
today's schedule for Radio Norfolk in XML format.

Does anyone know when the local radio stations will be
added to the index of stations at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes and
thus be considered 'official'? I'm slightly wary of starting to use
these local radio XML feeds if they are going to be moved or pulled in
the near future.

On a similar vein, does anyone know when the move of
local radio to iPlayer is likely to happen, and thus the Audio on Demand
data become available at
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/availability/[network].xml
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/availability/%5Bnetwork%5D.xml
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/availability/%5Bnetwork%5D.xml in the
same way as the national stations are? I've had a number of users asking
me when I can start to support their favourite local radio station
