David, The backuppc user generally doesn’t have shell access. You should be able to use something like: su -s /bin/bash backuppc ssh-copy-id -i .ssh/id_rsa.pub ‘r...@client.to.backup' exit On the server, you can add shell access to the backuppc user with: usermod -s /bin
