Don't worry, it seems all three (!!) volumes I transferred to my computer
to test them were corrupted on transfer. Tar on the server correctly shows
the (partial) list of files on each volume, as expected.

I'm testing the archive capabilities of BackupPC (V4). Is there a way to
read (list files, extract some of them) a single volume of a split Archive
without having to cat together all the volumes first?
