good to start with an O'Reilys book on CGI. Either that or google it up. I
don't have any specific recommendation for you though.

I'm trying to avoid potential issues. I'm considering selling
pre-configured BackupPC servers to small businesses.
I don't mean to say that the interface is complicated, but there is a
lot of information there and some people will panic when they see it.
