James,

It looks like it actually performed full backups of some hosts (kw33,
kw109, kw124, kw9) normally between 1am and 3am, then linked them at 4am.
The BackupPC_nightly task took the next ~8 hours, during which no backups
occurred. Then, it tried to link the same hosts again...

I'm assuming that the first BackupPC_link for those hosts failed for some
reason since it's trying again... can you show us the last bad xferlog for
one of those hosts, if it exists, or any lines in the plain xferlog that
don't look normal?

Oh, and backuppc is almost certainly not having trouble with the size of
your filesystem. I'm using it with a 9TB partition without problems. Are
you confusing your pool, which if you're using compression should be empty,
with your Cpool, which has ~1TB?

Oh, also can you verify that you're not running out of inodes on your
filesystem? What's the output of "df -hi"?

Cheers, Stephen

Ah, I understand. BackupPC_tarCreate doesn't create a tar file from
the original files, but from the backup files.
I tried this:

BackupPC_tarCreate -h localhost -n -1 -s /Users -t / > /tmp/Users.tar

And it worked! Thanks so much!
I don't understand why it now suddenly found "/Users", but what
counts is, that it worked.

Thanks
Phil

[BackupPC-users] Partial failures

2006-10-27 Thread Jason Hughes
Hi all,

I've just got backuppc set up for the first time on a Centos 4.4 box
using the provided RPMs, with mod_perl. It was a real challenge because
it seems somehow to be using mod_perl2, whereas Centos only has
1.999xxx. Very confusing. At any rate, it's working with Apache
running as user backuppc, on a box totally dedicated to it. I've got
ssh keys set up for two Linux boxes, and tested it manually. Appears to
work fine. I also have it using smbclient to get to two Windows boxes
(XP and 2000). That also appears to work, though I'm not sure how given
it's not using any passwords to access my shares?

The problem I'm getting is that only one machine had a complete backup
succeed. And its log for 'success' has a number of entries like this:

This was for the full backup. It otherwise succeeded and transferred
30gb, which I figured was good, but a far cry from the 90gb on the
machine. It looks like basically any file that my local user on that
machine has added, I was denied access. My SMB share is my whole C
drive, and I think I'm using the administrator account, which seems to
log in w/o a password. Being a member of the administrator group,
shouldn't it have access to everything? Or am I misunderstanding how
smbclient works, in that a password-less login has some access, but you
need a password to get full access or something bizarre like that?

Also, every backup I've run thus far has become wedged. Every one. I
let it run for two or three days and the processes fall from being 50%
CPU each (2 concurrent max), to zero. Any ideas? As you can see, I'm
having a tough time with it. I like the interface, but I need to figure
out what I've done to make it so unstable for me.

Thanks,
JH

Do you have enogh free space on disk?

Take a look at $Conf{DfMaxUsagePct} variable in your config.pl.

Backuppc stops doing new backups when the value in this variable is
reached.
