Re: [BackupPC-users] A restore question
a very quick hint: smb had a 2gb limitation. or the smb transfer times out at 20seconds sometimes this happens because of av software. hello from portugal 2010/6/25, Almeida : > > Just for your information: i'm running BackupPC on a Debian server and i've > tried to restore a file previously backuped on a Windows(w2k3) client, to > another Windows(w2k3) client. [BackupPC-users] A restore question
Hi, I got some interest issues about restore process. I can restore a file previously backuped in one server to another one. But just for little files; not big ones. I would like to know if there is some restriction about it. In my case, i've tried to restore a 8gb, but BackupPC bring me an error. Follow it: restore failed (abandoning restore, -1 from read tar header) Is there any kind of limitation for large files or is just a matter of some configuration that i should do? If i can backup a large file i think i can restore it just like, isn't? Thanks in advance and forgive me for my bad english! Just for your information: i'm running BackupPC on a Debian server and i've tried to restore a file previously backuped on a Windows(w2k3) client, to another Windows(w2k3) client. Re: [BackupPC-users] Backup never completes
Actually, (and I just realized that I needed to update this), the "Child is aborting" message came because I rebooted the client. I don't know why, but everything started behaving itself this week... I had a bunch of "urgency=high" Debian updates, so both the server and the client were upgraded. I'm glad its working, but would have loved to know the cause... Thanks Matthias, for looking into it. --b On Sat, Jun 26, 2010 at 8:10 AM, Matthias Meyer wrote: > "Child is aborting > Got exit from child" > indicates a problem on client side. [BackupPC-users] BackupPC for Windows and ESXi best practices
Hey folks, I've been using BackupPC to back up my network for something like 4 years. I am quite comfortable with that part. This query is more general. All of the machines on my network are Linux, so my experience is very...one sided. When I back up a Linux box, my goal is to preserve not only the unique data such as /home, but enough of the OS so that I can do a base install (in my case, Debian), grab and install the original package list, and restore from backups...A process which takes, say, an hour from start to finish for a VM. Windows, OTOH, is a completely new animal for me. Can anyone give me some best practices on what to back up on a Windows VM? Or would it be better to just back up the VM lock, stock and snapshot? The VM is running on VMware ESXi 4.0, so I am still learning how snapshots and what not work. What are the best practices for Windows (and VMware ESXi) backups? "Child is aborting Got exit from child" indicates a problem on client side.
