Probably BackupPC_deleteBackup.sh starts with a line "#!/bin/sh" and will us
/bin/sh as shell. I would believe /bin/sh is a softlink to /bin/dash.
Change this solftlink or run "bash BackupPC_deleteBackup.sh ..." instead.

Thanks for pointing this out...I didn't see it the first few times I
went through the configuration variables.

Changing the alias will only change how backuppc tries to reach the remote
machine. That is save and easy to change in the gui.

Changing the name of the "host" (which doesn't always have to be a host)
requires you to also move the corresponding dir in /var/lib/backuppc/pc and if
you want to keep the special configuration you should also copy the hosts
config
in /etc/backuppc.

Have fun,

Arnold

Re: [BackupPC-users] Delete old backups when disk full?

2012-01-18 Thread Tyler J. Wagner
No. BackupPC has no real tracking of "unique disk space used by backup"
because that doesn't really exist.

The *pool* uses disk space. Deleting single older backups will (1) free no
space at all right away, (2) lead to some free space once the next
BackupPcNightly runs, and (3) the amount freed will not be known beforehand.

Regards,
Tyler
