Either wait until UTC catches up to local time (or vice versa) since chances
are, this is caused by switching time zone models -- or locate the
file(s) that are dated in the future and either touch them, or travel forward
in time to when they were last updated.

It may be instructive to check the time both as the backuppc user and as on the
system you're trying to back up.

[BackupPC-users] Getting files newer than error

2012-09-13 Thread Lee A. Connell
I usually use Debian. I switched a server to CentOS 6 and installed BackupPC
from EPEL, version 3.2.1 and CentOS 6 is using smbclient 3.5. I took out the
-N switch and it now backups up. It only backs up using the full method. If I
try to do an incremental backup it fails with this.

Running: /usr/bin/smbclient ts-1\\Users -c tarmode\ full -TcN
/var/lib/BackupPC//pc/ts-1/timeStamp.level0 -
incr backup started back to 2012-09-13 20:04:48 (backup #1) for share Users
Xfer PIDs are now 3784,3783
Getting files newer than Thu Sep 13 20:04:48 2012
tarExtract: Done: 0 errors, 0 filesExist, 0 sizeExist, 0 sizeExistComp, 0
filesTotal, 0 sizeTotal
Got fatal error during xfer (Getting files newer than Thu Sep 13 20:04:48 2012)
Backup aborted (Getting files newer than Thu Sep 13 20:04:48 2012)

What do I need to do to get this to work?

Perhaps the web server doesn't have read access to the backuppc
directories. Is this on a system with SELinux?

[BackupPC-users] Empty directories for backups

2011-04-05 Thread Lee A. Connell
I am having a strange issue on only one of my backed up hosts. I have 12
consecutive days of reported good backups, but when I go to click on one
of the backup numbers it is blank. I checked in the directory path
within /var/lib/backuppc/pc/host and the directory does not show there
either. Some backups numbers show fine. Why is this happening
especially when backuppc pc is logging that the backups are successful,
reporting the # of files and size etc...

It seems something is deleting those directories, would nightly cleanup
be doing that?

[BackupPC-users] Cleaning Backups

2010-11-03 Thread Lee A. Connell
I am using the single backup deletion script to clean out some backups
manually, however when I run the script it tells me there are no backups
for the backup number I chose. I can look under the host directory and
I indeed do not see that number as a backup folder. Where is this
information being pulled from? Also how else can I delete these lost
backups because they're taking up a lot of space on my server. In the
past I would just delete the entire cpool and pc directories but I can't
keep doing that.

Thank you!

What version of BackupPC and smbclient are you using? Earlier versions
of both have problems with large files.

I think you mean that 2 GB is the limit for FAT16. Windows 95a was the last
FAT16 operating system released by Microsoft.

The limit for FAT32 is 8 TB. This was released with Windows 95b in 1996. How
many of us in 1996 figured that we would have terabyte drives in 2008?

It is reported that FAT64 will support up to 16 exabytes.

[BackupPC-users] BackupFilesExclude

2008-05-06 Thread Lee A. Connell
I see the option to exclude files from a backup in a particular share,
however it doesn't seem to work.

I would like to exclude directories named "Temporary Internet Files" in
any path, not just the root.

So: c:\user\lee\temporary internet files

And: c:\my docs\temporary internet files

Would all get skipped no matter the root directory they reside in. I
added BackupFilesExclude = ['/Temporary Internet Files'];

But this didn't seem to work. Any suggestions, I am using rsync for
transfer layer.

Re: [BackupPC-users] Backup Blackout Periods

2008-03-07 Thread Lee A. Connell
The every other day blackout is because I want to backup one server at a
time because we are sending lots of data over a small internet pipe.
Backing up both servers at the same time takes forever, so I do one
server one day, another server the next.

So if I run a manual backup at 7:00PM it should be in order after that?
How would I change manually settings for this?

Thanks for response.

Just curious - why black out ever other day?

The blackout period doesn't take effect until a host has been pinged a
certain number of days outside of the blackout interval to be sure it
will be available after hours. Normally it will work to add new hosts
late in day and start the first run manually from the web interface.
That way you can be sure it is working and the approximately 24 hour
interval will keep it from running before that time the next day - and
by the time it drifts out of that cycle the blackout period will be
effective. But, you can change those settings if you want.

I can transfer 5GB files with rsync 2.6.9 on digital unix and on ubuntu
7.10 and on sco openserver4 no problems. im using rsync -aH only.

you can replace "--server --sender --numeric-ids --perms --owner --group
-D --links --times --block-size=2048 --recursive -D --ignore-times"
with
-aI --server --sender --numeric-ids --block-size=2048
(thats -aye -(capitol)eye for -aI)
I noticed that you have an extra -D and you may want to increate the
blocksize for large files.

try using --block-size=8192 and dropping the redundant -D and maybe
trimming down the statement size with:

-aI --numeric-ids --block-size=8192

the --server and --sender dont seem relevant to me. i could be wrong
there but I don't think you need it.

[BackupPC-users] :::: Moving an existing backup to new drives

2007-09-20 Thread Lee A. Connell
I sent this question in earlier, I don't believe I got a response. Is
there a way I can move my existing backups to a new drive and still
access them through the web interface. I am going to symlink the

the old data along with it. Any suggestions?

what changed as this was working. However if I run a manual backup, the
Age/days value reports correctly. Any ideas?

p.s. My date/time on the server is correct

[BackupPC-users] Host Backup Summary

2006-05-17 Thread Lee A. Connell

Hello all,

Quick question as I guess I’m getting confused as to
how to read the backup summary.  I have 1 Full backup and 6 Incr’s in my
summary.

The full backup reports 20GB underneath Totals.

The inc’s backup reports 20.1GB underneath Totals.

The new files listed under my incr’s is only about 60
files which equals 94MB’s.  Being an incremental backup shouldn’t
it have only jumped up 94MB’s in the Total’s section?  I know for
sure that the original 20GB has not changed.  I just added a couple files to
the backup.  How am I suppose to read this properly?

Is there a way to transfer files larger than 4GB on a
windows machine from linux using backuppc?

[BackupPC-users] RSYNCD exclusions

2006-05-11 Thread Lee A. Connell

I am using rsyncd for transport which is working great on a
windows client.  However I specified an exclusion:

$Conf{XferMethod} = 'rsyncd';

$Conf{RsyncShareName} = 'Data';

$Conf{RsyncdAuthRequired} = 0;

$Conf{BackupFilesExclude} = ['/cygdrive/d/MUSIC'];

This did not work, it backed up the MUSIC folder anyways, am
I excluding that properly?

[BackupPC-users] Compression

2006-05-11 Thread Lee A. Connell

I noticed while monitoring backuppc that it doesn’t
seem to compress on the fly, is this true?  I am backing up 40GB’s
worth of data on a server and as it is backing up I monitor the disk space
usage on the mount point and by looking at that information it doesn’t
seem like compression is happening on the fly.

Does compression happen after the backup completes?

RE: [BackupPC-users] > 4GB files with smb transport

2006-05-09 Thread Lee A. Connell

Hi Jonathan,

I’ve actually tried rsync over ssh
using full cygwin install and I am having problems with that one as well.  It
may be a different issue, but it seems to send “child sending done”
when a file’s seed checksum doesn’t match and = 0.  I’ve read
on the FAQ’s that rsync and cygwin also have file limitations?

Is it not possible to transfer large
files?  How do people backup exchange servers that are say 15 – 20GB
large?  I am in the middle of a proof of concept with a client using this
technology and this is the only problem I’ve ran into.

Thanks!

Eeek, that's pretty big.

You could try the tar method with COPSSH, that would probably work.
COPSSH is just a really striped down cygwin install that includes tar, ssh, and
one or two other utils.
