About iptables use:
service iptables stop
or /etc/init.d/iptables stop
not just iptables stop
I imagine (given the name PARANOIA)
that iptables have some restrictions.

I've a problem with compiling bacula 1.38.5 on a debian sarge system.

I found the solution in the debian diff file for bacula 1.36.3
(bacula_1.36.3-2.diff.gz). Changing the DB_LIBS line in the Makefile
did the trick.
DB_LIBS = -L/usr/lib/postgresql -lpq -lcrypt
