Hi Drew,
Try installing IBM's tape driver rather than the default one in the
Linux kernel. I have a LTO4 half-height SAS drive and it made a
difference in transfer speeds for me.

Yes you would lose everything on the tape if you set it to recycle.

There probably is a way to trick bacula into forgetting the incomplete
job on the tape but i'm guessing that would require you to go in and
monkey with the database entries for that tape.
Probably safer to buy an extra tape and run the remaining jobs on it for
the period.
