I have run into tape libraries that require the tape to be unloaded from the
drive before performing an unload command.
The mtx-changer script supports this feature. You need to change the
.../etc/mtx-changer.conf file, specifically the line
# Set to 1 if you want to do offline before
William
I believe that message is generated when it tries to do an unload but the tape
is still in the drive.
Try changing the $BACULA_BASE/etc/mtx-changer.conf and set the "offline"
variable to do an eject before an unload.
Then give it a try.

I believe that you should have used “restart” instead of “start” in your
systemctl commands. Once you make a change in your configs you need to
totally restart the director, which “systemnctl restart bacula-dir” would not.
The start only starts the daemon if it is not already

What version of bacula are you running? I had a lot of issues with version
7.4 with these types of errors. Once I upgrade to 9.X all these error went away
And I have had not further SD failures. If you're your not running 9.X then I
would recommend an upgrade.

Once you get your backups working, you can experiment with it.

bacula a great tool.
My current backup environment currently consists of a server, VTL and a
tape library connected by a 10GiG network. Bacula currently at 5.2.13.
I plan on upgrading once I've integrated the tape library and
