Yes, I was able to build everything
on both 1.38.0 and 1.36.3 which I am still using.
I made a patch to src/stored/dev.c.
The diff between the two 1.36.3 files is this:

As far as I know TRU64 you have to use /dev/nait3 as the
non-autorewinding device.
