Re: [Bacula-users] ML6000 does not work al of a sudden

2012-05-04 Thread Satmarean, Mihai
Hi Tilman,

Thanks a lot for your reply,
you were right about the spool file, I did searched for files there and I found
a file of approx 725 Gb dated 22.02.2012 which is also the date when our
problems begin.

I'll erase that and start a new job.

I need to explain to you a bit in detail what happened:

The tape drive had an error that kept coming:

Name: T050 - TapeAlert 31 - Hardware B
Ticket Number: 18   State: UnOpened
Creation Date: 05-May-2011 11:39:08   Severity: 2
Last Occurrence: 05-May-2011 11:39:08
Description:
Tape drive internal hardware problem detected.
Technical Details
Fault code generic 0
Fault code specific 22
Element type generic UDS-3 Sled
Element Location [0,2]
Drive Sled Serial Number 1310022196
Partition library_a
Fault description All Tape Alerts posted- 31

Also Calibration error and such.

So after 3 weeks of diagnosis with Dell, we got another tape drive.

But the new tape drive did not write tapes also (the latest errors in the first
post are from the second tape drive and most probably is the spool quota as you
pointed out)
and here is the output of btape for the new tape drive

#btape /dev/rmt/0bn

   fd.pem is specific for each client

   master.pem in the case we loose the specific backup key.

   My bacula server is unable to restore 1 of my three Windows servers

   Saying unable to restore is too vague -- what is the error message?

  I wanted to say that Master encryption/decryption doesn't work

  It's just saying :

  Error: Missing private key required to decrypt encrypted backup data.

  OK.

   Which one fails to restore?

   Is it definitely using the correct bacula-fd.conf?  E.g. try temporarily
   deleting the master.pem file and see if the bacula-fd fails to start.

  The file daemon with master.pem is decrypting every other backup fine
  (linux, mac windows) so it can't come from the restore FD but more
  from the backup fd when it loads the master.cert that contains the
  master public key.

  That points to a problem on the Windows machine's file daemon.  E.g. try
  temporarily deleting the master.pem file from the Windows client and verify
  that you get an error when you restart its bacula-fd.

 Did you want to say master.cert file ? Instead of master.pem

 Oops yes, thanks for the correction.

Hello

Indeed, if I rename the file bacula services starts without any
warning and if I do a status client=MyWIndowsFD in bconsole
everything seems to be fine.

On the other windows server, I tried the same and the service refused
to start, I simply don't understand

What should I do ?

Thanks

OK, that suggests to me that the bacula-fd.conf doesn't load master.cert for
some reason.

Check the command line arguments of the service to find the bacula-fd.conf.
You could try renaming that bacula-fd.conf and then restart the service (I
would expect it to fail to start in that case).

Having identified the bacula-fd.conf that the service is using, compare it to
the working ones.

using mktemp to generate a temporary file with unique name:

I guess we need some more config info here, specifically you should
have received a mount request email to the address configured in your
bacula config. It will contain the info about which volume / media
bacula wants mounted or hasn't found for some reason.

[Bacula-users] Exchange plugin always truncating logs (when it should not)

2012-05-04 Thread Guido Falsi
Hi!

I've been using bacula to backup an exchange 2003 server for some time with
success. You could say I'm an happy user :)

Lately I noticed bacula started truncating logs on EVERY backup, also
incrementals and differentials, when it should not.

I'm not sure when this happened. I'm inclined to thing it started when
I upgraded to 5.2.6 But I don't have logs handy till them. I can try to
reover them from some backup perhaps.

The machine is a Windows 2003 R2 server, 32 bit. I used the installer
from the project page on sourceforge to install bacula.

If needed I can try installing a previous version on this client and see
if this makes the problem disappear. Is such a scenario(older client)
supported?

The job description is unmodified since february 2011, and I'm sure it
was not truncating logs back then.

here's the job definition (defaults too):

JobDefs {
Name = DefaultJob
Type = Backup
Level = Full
Accurate = yes
Messages = Standard
Pool = Default
Priority = 10
SpoolData = no
Spool Attributes = yes
Write Bootstrap = /var/db/bacula/Bootstraps/%c_%n
Max Start Delay = 20 h
Enabled = yes
}

Job {
Name = nifi10MonthlyMain
Jobdefs = DefaultJob
Schedule = MonthlyCycleMain
Storage = Storageworks-1
Client = ntfi10-fd
FileSet = ntfi10 Set
# Exchange plugin not tested with accurate backups. Don't
# use the option.
Accurate = no
Client Run Before Job = PreBCK.bat before
Client Run After Job = PreBCK.bat after
}

FileSet {
Name = ntfi10 Set
Enable VSS = yes
Include {
Options {
Signature = SHA1
}
Plugin = exchange:/@EXCHANGE/Microsoft Information
Store
File = E:/Exchsrvr/NTFI10.log
File = E:/Exchsrvr/Old-logs
File = D:/Save_DB_Marcatempo
File = D:/Software
File = D:/tmp_BO
File = E:/Documenti
File = E:/backup
}
}

The accurate and Enable VSS line have always been like that. So I don't
think they're problematic.

I'm quite sure that up to last year this configuration DID work as
expected.

 in my conf for pool with diff's

Hi,

After 10 days from marked volume as Used of Full, volume will be ready
to recycle process. If Bacula will request this volume then volume will
be recycled, all backups on this volume will be lost and volume will be
writing as new volume.

In your configuration of Pool resource volumes status rather will be
Used (because of Use Volume Once = yes). 'Recycle Current Volume'
directive will be try to run recycle process on current using volume.
So, you should guarantee that current volume is ready to recycle (older
than 10 days after marked volume as Used) eg. by using fixed volumes
numer in pool.

Number of volumes in pool you can calculate by using below schema:

   Vol. Retention time
volumes number = --   1
  number of backups per volume * backup interval time

In your case that may be:

10
volumes number =    1
   1 * 1

so number of volumes on pool should be at least 11.

Please note that 'Use Volume Once' directive is deprecated and its
actual equivalent is:

Maximum Volume Jobs = 1

Answering on your question:

after 10 days bacula remove old backup's in this pool?

No. Volume Retention is connected with volumes so I suggest to treating
this on volumes level.

I do not know why there truncated 'plus' character.
So I am sending this part again:

Can I manually change Volume Retention time for existing volume if it
needed?

Does user bacula (or whatever user bacula-sd runs as) have write
permission in /media/usb-backup/bacula/

Re: [Bacula-users] Exchange plugin always truncating logs (when it should not)

2012-05-04 Thread James Harper

Is such a scenario(older client)
 supported?

That's really strange. The code to do this is pretty straightforward... at job
init it does this:

  switch (context-job_level) {
  case 'F':
 if (context-notrunconfull_option) {
context-truncate_logs = false;
 } else {
context-truncate_logs = true;
 }
 break;
  case 'D':
 context-truncate_logs = false;
 break;
  case 'I':
 context-truncate_logs = false;
 break;
  default:
 _DebugMessage(100, Invalid job level %c\n, context-job_level);
 return bRC_Error;
  }
  break;

Then later it does this:

  if (context-truncate_logs) {
 _DebugMessage(100, Calling HrESEBackupTruncateLogs\n);
 result = HrESEBackupTruncateLogs(hccx);
 if (result != 0) {
_JobMessage(M_FATAL, HrESEBackupTruncateLogs failed with error
0x%08x - %s\n, result, ESEErrorMessage(result));
 } else {
_JobMessage(M_INFO, Truncated database logs for Storage Group
%s\n, name);
 }
  } else {
 _JobMessage(M_INFO, Did NOT truncate database logs for Storage Group
%s\n, name);
  }

And nothing else touches truncate_logs in between that I can see.

Could you please try doing:

set debug level=200 trace=1

for your fd, run a backup, and then email me the resulting trace file (in the
fd working directory I think). I'm wondering if something has changed and the
callback ordering is different or something.

James
