as in the topic, there is a way to get that?
I found that the command 'update slots' checks that but maybe I don't
want to send that command before to discover if is an autochanger or

[Bacula-users] From 5.0.2 to 5.2.6

2013-01-30 Thread Mauro Colorio
Hi folks,
I'm migrating from bacula 5.0.2 to 5.2.6, this due the migration from
debian squeeze to debian wheezy,
for the 5.0.2 i got a separated mysql server now I want to install on
the same server,
so my wonted migrating steps are:
install a fresh debian with 5.2.6 and configure to work with a mysql
installed locally,
dump the bacula db from 5.0.2 and restore on the new local mysql,
run the upgrade mysql's scripts,
done.

I'm missing something?

 is this a problem? Can almir do job groups for accounting purposes

 No, sorry, it doesn't do that. It should be possible to add such

Re: [Bacula-users] permanent backup

2011-12-14 Thread Mauro Colorio
 I want to know what the best way is for creating a permanent backup to
 tape.  I need to create a backup on tape of certain files(a HP 1/8 G2 Tape
 Autoloader) and I should keep them at least 2-3 years..  I also need to
 have a  failover in case my DB is gone.  Currently I’m still using bacula
 2.4.4 on debian.  Can anybody describe what the best way is to create this
 archive, best practices,. …?

I done the same implementing something like GFS algorithm and keeping a :
 File Retention = 12 months
 Job Retention = 12 months

so I can select job and restore files in 12 months, if I need
something older I use bscan

[Bacula-users] Problem with bscan: bscan JobId 0: Invalid slot=0

2011-11-03 Thread Mauro Colorio
I'm trying to bscan an old volume:

bscan  -n  bacula -c /etc/bacula/bacula-sd.conf -v -V MNT002L4  -s -m /dev/nst0

03-nov 09:47 bscan JobId 0: Invalid slot=0 defined in catalog for

required.
Mount Volume MNT002L4 on device HP-ULTRIUM (/dev/nst0) and press
return when ready:

then on bconsole I do:
update slots
Automatically selected Storage: HP1-8G2

3306 Issuing autochanger slots command.
Device HP-AUTOLDR has 8 slots.
Connecting to Storage daemon HP1-8G2 at 192.168.64.244:9103 ...

Catalog record for Volume MNT002L4 updated to reference slot 1.

then

mount storage=HP1-8G2 slot=1

I hit enter on the bscan command, but still:

Re: [Bacula-users] Problem with bscan: bscan JobId 0: Invalid slot=0

2011-11-03 Thread Mauro Colorio
I solved in this way..

run bscan with the params, then it asks me for the manual mount of the
volume, I stopped all bacula services,and then
I run:

/etc/bacula/scripts/mtx-changer /dev/sg3 load 1 /dev/nst0 0

where 1 is the number of the slot where the tape is located,
I dunno why the mount command in bacula wasn't enough, i suppose couse
mount command update something in the db?
btw now bscan is running, hope this helps someone else :)

[Bacula-users] File retention, Job Retention and Volume retention

2011-11-02 Thread Mauro Colorio
Suppose I've this bacula-dir.conf snapshot:

Client {
  Name = foo-fd
  Catalog = MyCatalog
  File Retention = 12 months
  Job Retention = 12 months
  AutoPrune = yes # Prune expired Jobs/Files
}

Pool {
  Name = Daily
  Pool Type = Backup
  Recycle = yes
  AutoPrune = yes
  Volume Retention = 5 days
  Maximum Volume Bytes = 800G
  Volume Use Duration = 23h
  Maximum Volumes = 5
}

Pool {
  Name = Monthly
  Pool Type = Backup
  Recycle = yes
  AutoPrune = yes
  Volume Retention = 1 year
  Maximum Volume Bytes = 800G
  Volume Use Duration = 23h
  Maximum Volumes = 1
}

It's correct to say that:
the jobs done in the pool daily will stay in the catalog for 5 days,
then purged. ( Even if in the fd definition I've 12 month, the Volume
retention when is passed
all jobs that are on the retented volume will be purged)
the monthly one to stay for one year and then purged is it correct?,
is that correct? (otherwhise my catalog will be vry big)

Re: [Bacula-users] How do I restore to a different disk?

2011-07-14 Thread Mauro Colorio
 The restore operation will always happen through a bacula-fd (which
 communicates with the bacula-sd), so to restore to a different machine
 it'll need a bacula-fd running on it.

 If you add it as a client to your bacula setup you'll be able to choose
 it in bconsole when you mod the restore job. You can then still change
 the Where option in the job to restore it to a different path on that
 client.

yes or without doing that you can use the bacula fd (where bacula
director lives) ,
restoring there then scp data, otherwise mounting the remote fs with
for cifs, sshfs nfs or whatever you know,
probabily the correct way is the Jeremy one, 'cause you will hav eto
configure the fd for the newserver for future backups

[Bacula-users] Moving a volume to a pool doens't inherit the correct Volume Use Duration

2011-05-31 Thread Mauro Colorio
 I actually don't think it's a BUG, when you put your tapes on the Scratch
 Pool using  label barcodes, the volumes will inherit any configuration on
 that pool, and only if that volume gets cycled to the Daily Pool
 automatically by Bacula using the Scratch Pool = Scratch parameter I told
 you about before is when these parameters from the Daily Pool are set on the
 Volume...

For my management I label volumes with barcode like DAY001L4 DAY002L4
WEK001L4 and  so on
while there is not a way to bring a volume from the Scratch pool by
label mask (for example DAY*)
I've to move them manually, and I think that when you move a volume to
a pool (even manually)
you *want* that the volume inherit configuration from the new Pool and
not to keep old values,
at least this is my opinion,
otherwise which sense has to set this params in the Pool configuration
and not on the Volume directly?

[Bacula-users] Moving a volume to a pool doens't inherit the correct Volume Use Duration

2011-05-27 Thread Mauro Colorio
I've a scratch pool defined as

Pool {
  Name = Scratch
  Pool Type = Backup
}

and daily one

Pool {
  Name = Daily
  Pool Type = Backup
  Recycle = yes
  AutoPrune = yes
  Volume Retention = 5 days
  Maximum Volume Bytes = 800G
  Volume Use Duration = 23h
  Maximum Volumes = 5
}

so noticed that there is not a Volume Use Duration in the Scratch
pool, when I label new volumes with the command
label barcode pool=Scratch i put volumes in the Scratch, they have
value 0 for Volume Use Duration,
pool then I move some of them in the Daily pool they keeps 0 for
Volume Use Duration, I was expecting that they takes the correct
value,
of course I can run update volume, but I think it's a bug, isn't?

[Bacula-users] Making a pool to add volumes by label

2011-05-05 Thread Mauro Colorio
I wonder if it's possible that a pool adds automatically from the
scratch pool volumes that contains some pattern,
suppose you fill the Scratch pool with a 'label barcode' command, and
the labels are in the form of

DAYnnn
WEEKnnn
MONTHnnn

suppose then to have a pool called DAILY that and you want that the
pool adds to itself just volumes with label that start with DAY*

it's actually possible? there is a way to achieve this? it would be implemented?
