Older 3.0.x and possibly 2.4.x File Daemons are compatible with the 3.0.3 Director and Storage daemons. There should be no need to upgrade older File Daemons. You cannot use all new 3.0.x features for old 2.4.x fd clients, e.g ExcludeDirContaining thanks much for your replies, I'll give it a go next week then report back. For now, we're not planning to introduce any new features from 3.x to our backup strategy, it's a simple drop-in replacement for a 2.2.8 bacula server, so I don't expect too many problems.
