Allan and Woody,
I didn't express myself well in the previous post. I have used BD compost for
many years, and BC and 500 sprayed every year on the vegetable garden. I have
always used compost, BC and 500, but only used 501 once last year in a small
area (This is such an arid place especially
We always have two kinds of small bark beetles in the winter--longish
brown creatures with beautiful markings. They don't eat in their adult
phase. I don't know their life cycle. They walk and fly around the
loft of our cabin. They are under the metal roof and must come in
through small cracks

Yes you are calling for protection in doing the Three Kings Spray.
Do you not have the directions and kit from Hugh Courtenay at JPI on the
Three Kings? This will tell you all you need to know and the 2001 newsletter
that I mentioned to Allan.
And spraying over top of snow would not do it.

We've been getting torrential rains here in central Texas. Though

I am interested to know how well the seeded nettles grow.
a bd grower in Germany told me that he tried to grow nettles from seed for
nettle tea production and increase the a amount of nettles available for
his own use. He tried several times, but failed, while in some areas of
his property they
Dear Manfred,
Not much to comment yet. I haven't tried the Prill water. I've trying this
Japanese version. Sure is good water, but if you go the the Prill site some
amazing and extravagant claims are made. I don't see much evidence of their
validity. I'm one who tries to bend over backward to
Folks -
One year I cut my seeding nettle back and put the cuttings in the
compost pile. I thought my chopping preceded the maturity of the
seed, but apparently not. I applied that compost in the fall and in
the spring I had, well, a cover crop of nettle plants everywhere I
had put down the
My experience with nettles planted in my garden periphery, is that the
harvest is much smaller the area planted is expanding slowing. The
'natural' patch is much more prolific. But I must say, my favorite to eat
and drink are the nettles receiving the bd preps. They are somehow much more
tasty,
Well, now I am confused. It is January here in the NE. And there is snow.
That seems pretty predictable. How is it possible that we should NOT spray
if there's snow?
It does seem, having said that, that there wasn't snow last year when we
sprayed the Three Kings.

Jane

What are you trying to do? What is the desired influence? What is your
source?
Copper sulfate is a potent algaecide and I assume would have injurious
effects on other microbes. Obviously it affects fungi, presumably even
the beneficial ones. I'm not keen about using it as a spray -- I use
Sorry for the confusion Jane. What I was meaning was that it wouldn't be

in order to be able to spray the Three Kings.

Scoop up the filings and put them in the
stirring vessel...
Ah! Thank you, Steve - I assumed that you beat the filings right into the
endgrain rather than using the log as an anvil. Now I get it... Tony

IMHO Merla should get out there and put down the kings prep. Even if she
HADN'T PREVIOUSLY used the traditional preps. However, she should make the
commitment to use them from now on.
To know about the 3Kings prep and NOT use it is, IMO, a BIGGER betrayal
than using it with insufficient
