connecting the ethernet to the computer will not provide you with an IP address on the BBB. BBB wants to use dhcp to get an IP, which what happens when connected to the router. You should be able to ping 192.168.7.2 from the laptop, if you see 192.168.7.1 on the laptop. Is this your personal l
