Murphy's law; just got it working after posting. Here are the steps for mac: 1. (mac) Enable internet sharing. 2. (pocketbeagle via serial) run the command: "sudo ifconfig usb1 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 && sudo dhclient" voila! You can now apt-get update, etc. Thanks, Jeremy On Monday, 19 February 2018

For me, the pocketbeagle shows up with an address 192.168.6.2 on usb1, but I am using the onboard micro USB connector. I'm not sure why this is different. The breakout connector is labelled on the silkscreen with USB1. I'm using the latest stretch IoT from here:
