My Clever Boy!!!

2003-04-12 Thread Kathryn Davis
I've been working Tobin with his cart getting polished up for the Draft test at the Nat'l. I know one is supposed to take baby steps when introducing a dog to carting, but today I put Tobin's Siwash harness on Briggand, his 1yr son, hitched him up to Tobin's cart. He took a few steps, panicked a

A late response to Jean's post about 'reverse sneezing': My old Lab, Babe Am Eskimo, Klondike go into reverse sneezing fits when there are a lot of allergens in the air (spring blossoms, etc). I give them all the dogs 1 teasp of kelp with dessicated liver sprinkled over their food each morning

I used to 'unscrew' ticks---must be turned counterclockwise with slight pulling pressure. That way you get the head out. Any more with big wiggly black dogs, I just grab the tick yank it off. Usually the head comes out with the tick, but if not, when the scab forms, the tick's head will come off

Re: Nails. Is wear a sign of use?

2002-12-05 Thread Kathryn Davis
When I'm picking puppies, even nail wear (front back feet) is definitely one thing I look for. If a dog's front nails are worn down, but the back nails long, it indicates to me that the dog does not have good drive is doing more 'pulling' with his front legs. If his rear is worn down, but not
