I very rarely write because of so much flaming on this list and that I am fairly new to Berners (but not new to raising dogs).
Thankfully, my Berner Boy was a leftover! He was the result of a well planned experienced breeder who just happened to have two more pups than they thought... surprise even sonograms aren't perfect! She had all her pups spoken for and a waiting list of potential PPO's, however due to the circumstance of Tasha dying - I was the lucky one. I can see that a well planned breeding, mentored new breeder, and first time mom, may very well miss an extra pup and not plan on the event of this happening. Even on this list I see so very many different ways of dealing with the details of breeding.... Place ads, don't place ads (and if you don't how the heck do you find PPO's), and where do you place ads, not the newspaper, in the newspaper, not on the Internet, on the Internet (I was lucky to find my breeder that way). Isn't the reality that what we are trying to accomplish is a healthy breed and responsible loving PPO's? From what I see, there are many roads to that end. I may not really like a person based on the way they present them selves on the list - but find myself surprised by some well given advice or breeding practice. Someday - I will take everything I have learned here and form my own detailed accumulated opinion of what to do and what not to do when and if I decide to breed. Everyone's personal experience and advice is appreciated -- but I for one don't like or appreciate the flames or personal attacks. All that advice, taken wisely will help me on the road to do what I hope to do... help the breed that I have fallen in love with. Maria Pittsburgh, PA Cooper - BMD 10 months, Patches GSD 15 years
