For me browsing to the folder is not enough to get the album art. To get
it I follow these steps:
1. Browse to the folder with the album. The album will show with art.
2. Browse to the artist. On the artist page the album doesn't have art.
Going to the album page will add the art.
If this
odd. any chance the tags or file are messed up somehow?
if not, sounds like a bug.

yes, sounds like a big bug especially for it worked till one month
ago.
I filed a bug

but it seemed they see it as a SQLlite problem and moved it to 8.0
But the same problem exists in the MySQL version as I/we see...

Browse to folders is the way will add art but I think not embedded art
or if a track has embedded art which overrides art in a separate file.
Then you should clear the places where the art is cached so that the
new art file is loaded. These are the steps I take to clear all artwork
cache.

I'm still missing album art. After adding an album cover it is NOT added
to the database neither in Web UI NOR in the controller. So I bought a
full color controller and nearly can't use it. The only way is a
complete rescan (taking several hours), even for adding just one cover!

if you browse folders to the album, doesn't that add the art?
not sure if thats the right manual way to add just one, but there is a
way. also not sure if it works on just the gui or gui and controller.
